Precision Resource, a global leader in fineblanking technology, has announced a strategic partnership with 3D Systems to enhance its metal additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities. This collaboration will see the integration of two 3D Systems DMP Flex 350 Dual 3D printers into Precision Resource’s workflow, marking a significant step in expanding its technology offerings for high-criticality industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and medical devices.
By incorporating 3D Systems’ Direct Metal Printing (DMP) platform, Precision Resource aims to accelerate the adoption of metal AM in industries where precision and reliability are paramount. The two companies bring together their expertise in metal manufacturing processes to provide turnkey robotic CNC solutions to customers, ensuring quicker and more efficient paths to market.
The integration of the DMP Flex 350 will take place at Precision Resource’s AS9100-certified Huntington Beach facility. Known for its cutting-edge environmental control systems, the DMP Flex 350 guarantees high-quality parts with robust metallurgical properties. Precision Resource’s existing 5-axis machining centers and advanced inspection systems complement the new technology, enabling the company to expand its portfolio of precision metal forming and offer innovative solutions to meet evolving customer demands.
Chris Gratton, General Manager of Precision Resource, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with 3D Systems allows us to remain at the forefront of technological progress while leveraging advancements in metal additive manufacturing to provide even more value to our clients.”
Precision Resource’s partnership with 3D Systems emphasizes the importance of precision manufacturing for high-criticality components. With 3D Systems’ Application Innovation Group (AIG) working closely with Precision Resource’s engineers, both companies are committed to improving production efficiency and addressing supply chain challenges through vertical integration.
The DMP Flex 350 platform’s features, such as quick-swap build modules and fast powder recycling, provide flexible application use and 24/7 productivity. Additionally, the vacuum chamber concept reduces argon gas consumption, ensuring high chemical purity and superior surface finish for complex AM parts.
As Jeph Ruppert, Vice President of Technical Business Development at 3D Systems, noted, “This collaboration brings together our industry-leading technology with Precision Resource’s commitment to precision. We expect this partnership to significantly boost quality, reduce time to market, and deliver enhanced total cost of ownership for our customers.”
This strategic move underscores Precision Resource’s ongoing expansion into metal 3D printing and highlights its dedication to continuous innovation across various sectors. Founded in 1947, Precision Resource continues to push the boundaries of manufacturing technology with a global presence in eight production facilities across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, China, and Slovenia.
