Okuma Introduces High-Pressure Coolant System to Enhance Machining Performance!
Okuma America Corporation has launched the Okuma High-pressure Coolant (OHP) system, a new solution designed to improve chip control, extend tool life, and boost productivity in demanding machining environments. The system expands Okuma’s portfolio of peripheral equipment aimed at supporting fully integrated manufacturing processes.
The OHP system delivers variable-flow, high-pressure coolant directly to the cutting zone, significantly improving chip evacuation during machining. This capability is particularly valuable in high-performance applications, where efficient chip removal helps prevent tool damage, maintain cutting stability, and enhance surface finish. The system is suitable for a wide range of machines, including multi-axis lathes, multi-function machines, and machining centres.
Designed for flexibility, the system is compatible with both water-based coolants and suitable oils, allowing it to adapt to different shop requirements and machining processes. It also features a user-friendly interface with clear English-language PLC messaging, making it easier for operators to monitor performance and system status. A built-in dirty filter alarm helps ensure timely maintenance, protecting both tooling and process efficiency.
From a performance standpoint, the system delivers a flow rate of 8 gallons per minute and operates at pressures up to 1000 PSI. Filtration is managed through dual 5-micron quick-change filter bags, ensuring high coolant cleanliness and consistent performance. A 50-gallon vertical reservoir, combined with integrated feed and supply pumps, enables extended machining cycles with minimal interruption.
The unit is designed with a compact footprint, measuring 36 by 28 by 42 inches, and weighs approximately 850 pounds, making it suitable for integration into a variety of shop floor layouts. It operates on standard 208/230 V power, with an option for 480 V, and is backed by a two-year parts warranty.
Overall, the introduction of the OHP system highlights Okuma’s focus on enhancing machining efficiency through advanced support technologies. By improving chip control, reducing tool wear, and maintaining consistent cutting conditions, the system provides manufacturers with a practical solution for achieving higher productivity and improved part quality.
