Kyocera SGS Precision Tools has unveiled the Z-Carb XPR high-performance end mill line, designed specifically for advanced plunging, ramping, and helical interpolation. This new line enables machinists to work with more aggressive tool paths while maintaining precision and durability, making it well-suited for a variety of roughing and finishing techniques.
The Z-Carb XPR is crafted with a unique open end tooth design that facilitates efficient chip evacuation, allowing for smooth machining during axial applications like plunging, ramping, and helical interpolation. The combination of this open tooth design with a variable geometry enables increased speeds and feeds, while reducing chatter and vibration. This results in smoother machining processes and enhances operational efficiency. With its universal geometry, the Z-Carb XPR is adaptable across a wide range of materials, making it ideal for slotting, advanced roughing, general roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing operations.
Kyocera offers two specialized coatings for the Z-Carb XPR line to extend tool life and improve performance. The Megacoat Nano coating features a nanolayered structure for optimal wear resistance and high oxidation resistance, making it suitable for high-temperature operations. Its toughness also provides resistance to chipping in high-efficiency applications. The Ti-Namite-X coating is designed for high cutting speeds and high metal removal rates, particularly in high- and low-alloy steels and hardened materials.
Key benefits of the Z-Carb XPR end mill line include the open end tooth design, which enhances chip evacuation during axial operations, as well as an end teeth wiper flat that strengthens corners and improves the floor surface finish of workpieces. The variable helix, rake, and flute indexing in the design help to suppress chatter, eliminate harmonics, and control cutting zone temperatures, producing optimal chip shapes. Additionally, a specialized flute shape supports chip evacuation up to 2 × D depth of cut, and PVD coating technology further extends tool life across various material applications.
With these innovative features, Kyocera’s Z-Carb XPR end mills provide machinists with versatile, high-performance tools that increase productivity and deliver improved results across a broad spectrum of materials and machining applications.
