HEULE has unveiled the DEFA tooling system, designed to address the challenges of chamfering difficult-to-machine materials such as INCONEL, titanium, 4140 steel, and other alloys prone to large burr formation. This innovative system features a dual-cutting mechanism with exchangeable carbide blades, offering an adjustable range to achieve precise chamfers across various material types.
The DEFA tooling system enables front and back chamfering of bores ranging from 4 mm to 36.2 mm in diameter. It utilizes a blade geometry that incorporates a sliding surface, which ensures smooth chamfer cutting while preserving the integrity of the bore surface. This design also prevents interference with cross holes, making it highly effective for complex and challenging machining tasks.
The tool simplifies the machining process by eliminating the need for spindle reversal or workpiece indexing, which typically slow down production times. It guarantees precision and consistency, particularly in demanding applications such as longitudinal grooves, cross-bores, and open bores with discontinuous cuts.
The DEFA tooling system compensates for surface variations, allowing it to maintain consistent chamfer sizes even on unknown or cast surfaces. This feature is especially beneficial when working with materials that exhibit inconsistent surface finishes. The system includes material-specific coated carbide blades designed to deliver long-lasting cutting performance, ensuring consistent chamfer diameters across all workpieces, regardless of the material’s surface condition.
The tooling’s versatility is further enhanced by its ability to machine in both forward and reverse, providing flexibility in a wide range of manufacturing processes. As the blades engage with the material, a radial retraction mechanism along the chamfered surface helps reduce the cutting width, allowing for precise control over chamfer dimensions, even when dealing with large burr formations. The chamfer angle is easily adjusted by selecting the appropriate cutting blade geometry, which can be pre-ground for both front and back chamfers.
HEULE’s DEFA tooling system provides a robust solution for manufacturers working with tough materials and complex geometries, enhancing productivity while ensuring high precision in chamfering operations.
