GE Aerospace’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pune has marked a significant milestone — ten years of driving innovation, precision, and operational excellence in India’s aerospace sector. Over the past decade, the Pune plant has evolved into a key global hub for the production of advanced jet engine components, supplying critical parts for CFM’s LEAP, GEnx, and GE9X engines. This achievement reflects not only GE Aerospace’s technological leadership but also its deep commitment to building local manufacturing capabilities and talent in India.
When the facility was established a decade ago, India’s aero-engine ecosystem was still in its early stages. Today, the Pune facility stands as a testament to how vision, investment, and capability-building can transform an emerging region into a global manufacturing powerhouse. Reflecting on this journey, Amol Nagar, Executive Director, Global Manufacturing Operations & Supply Chain, GE Aerospace, said, “When we started this factory, we did not have an aero-engine ecosystem here in Pune. Ten years later, we have not only created a world-class manufacturing skill base but have also contributed to the larger aerospace sector. I am proud of the progress we have made to develop local capacity for high-value manufacturing and skilling in Maharashtra.”
A cornerstone of the facility’s success is FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model. Designed to promote safety, quality, and efficiency, the model has been instrumental in transforming the Pune operation into a benchmark of operational excellence. Through the implementation of FLIGHT DECK and continuous employee-driven improvement initiatives, the plant has achieved remarkable gains in productivity and efficiency — reducing waste, shortening lead times, and increasing output. In just six quarters, the new model line has enabled the production of more than twice the number of components compared to earlier performance levels.
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune Manufacturing Facility, highlighted the site’s integral role in GE’s global supply chain. “Components from Pune feed into our global factories where they are used to build CFM’s LEAP, GEnx, and GE9X engines. We are pleased to serve our customers around the world and meet their increasing demands using our FLIGHT DECK proprietary lean operations model, with a sharp focus on safety and quality,” he said.
Beyond manufacturing excellence, the Pune facility has also become a vital center for skill development and workforce transformation in India’s aerospace ecosystem. Over the past decade, the site has trained more than 5,000 production associates and developed a strong pool of precision manufacturing talent. It provides a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on shop-floor training, ensuring that every engineer and technician meets GE’s rigorous standards of safety, precision, and quality.
GE Aerospace Pune also places a strong emphasis on sustainability and workforce development. The facility sponsors part-time graduate engineering programs, fostering a new generation of technically skilled professionals who are now contributing not only to GE’s operations but also to India’s broader aerospace and manufacturing ecosystem. Today, over 300 engineers work at the Pune site, with many more extending their expertise across the country’s aerospace sector.
Certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, the facility reflects GE’s global commitment to environmental responsibility and workplace safety. Approximately 30 percent of its power requirements are met through renewable energy sources, reinforcing GE Aerospace’s mission to build a more sustainable and efficient future.
As GE Aerospace Pune celebrates its tenth anniversary, it stands as a symbol of how global expertise and local innovation can combine to elevate India’s role in the global aerospace industry — powering the next generation of flight with precision, sustainability, and world-class engineering.
