Yamawa taps into the automotive industry

Yamawa has a portfolio of threading products that has been successfully adopted in many automotive manufacturing plants in Europe. This is a credit to the Japanese company’s threading expertise that spans over almost a century.

Among the innovations from Yamawa is the Z-PRO series of taps that represents the evolution of high performance tapping with the VU and the MH series as standout performers. The VU series is suitable for both mass production and small batches applications, and the series comprises spiral fluted taps for blind holes (VUSP) and spiral pointed taps for through holes (VUPO). Providing reliable tapping and extending tool life through impressive chip evacuation, the innovative flute design allows optimal chip control and lower cutting forces and this enhances the quality of internal threads.

Complementing the Z-PRO is the MH Series that has been designed for the automotive industry and in particular, the increased productivity of workpieces such as hub bearings, connecting rods, crankshafts, tie rod ends, differential ring gears and swing bearings. The MH series includes MHSP taps (for blind holes), MHSL taps (for through holes) and MHRZ roll taps. They perform well on carbon steels and alloy steels of medium hardness. The special coating extends the tool life and the special cutting-edge design generates smooth chip ejection that results in threads with excellent surface finishes. Thanks to Yamawa’s proprietary design, MHRZ roll taps for medium hardness carbon steel generate very low cutting torque that increases the tool life.

Alongside these products is the CT-FC taps for cast iron. Made of ultra-fine micro-grain carbide with excellent wear resistance and toughness, the MC-AD-CT series enhances efficiency on blind hole tapping in materials like aluminium die castings. They are suitable for mass production aluminium die-cast workpieces such as cylinder blockheads, transmission cases and water-pump manifolds.
