đ§Turning cutting-edge ideas into shop-floor solutions

For over 85 years, Kennametal has pioneered turning technology. From insert designs to high-performance turning tools, a relentless pursuit of excellence fueled by innovation and driven by quality has established it as a global leader in shaping the future of manufacturing.
Knowing the challenges shop floors are facing with turning operations like edge wear, chipping, deformation, depth-of-cut notching, thermal cracking, crater wear, built-up edge and catastrophic breakagesâjust to name a few, Kennametal has created a lineup of solutions that take turning to the next level.
âTurning grades are the backbone of precision machining,â says Scott Etling, Vice President of Global Product Management. âEach new generation improves on the last, ensuring every cut is precise, every edge is resilient, and every operation is efficient. These grades arenât just materialsâtheyâre engineered solutions.â
KCP25C is a standout CVD grade known for working with steel, is referred to as the âinsert that doesnât fail,â including being coated with KENGold⢠CVD technology. This protects against flank wear, reduces waste of unused edges, resists wear while providing a strong thermal barrier and delivers consistent tool life.
Shifting focus to PVD coating solutions, the KCU10B and KCU25B grades are designed for universal machining with the multilayer KENGold to cut a range of materials.
âWhen you look at Kennametalâs legacy in turning, itâs really a story of pushing limits,â said Etling. âFrom the start, weâve asked: how can we go beyond the standard tooling to help our customers machine smarter, faster and stronger?â
When it comes to various turning applications like outside and inside diameter turning, cut-off, grooving and profiling, Kennametal offers a wide range of precision tooling.
When it comes to internal turning projects, the TopSwiss⢠MBS brings the versatility that shops focused on medical, aerospace, automotive and general engineering components need with nearly 200 toolholders available. In addition, the range provides exceptionally sharp cutting edges for best-in-class tool life and surface finishes and five high-performance, material-specific coatings for high-temp alloys, hardened materials, stainless steels, steels and composite materials. The series also has a universal coating designed for consistency across multiple materials.
Similarly, the new TopSwiss ISO turning inserts are a go-to for small part machining for shops focused on aerospace, general engineering, medical and transportation components. The range provides superior chip evacuation and surface finish in low feed, high depth-of-cut applications. The inserts also feature straight and curved cutting edges for increased edge strength, polished finishing geometries for increased welding resistance and smooth chip flow, wiper geometries for increased feed rates and superior surface quality as well as geometries with high chip breaker walls and large pockets for better chip evacuation.
Itâs all in the name when it comes to the Beyond Evolution⢠single-sided grooving, turning and cut-off system. This system improves chip control in grooving, cut-off and multi-directional turning applications. The grooving line presents a triple-V design with three points of contact for stability and minimal vibration, a fan effect to direct coolant precisely to the cutting zone and geometries designed to run at higher speeds with increased heat and friction resistance.
No matter where your shop is located, what industries you serve, or how challenging the project is, Kennametalâs solutions can take your manufacturing to the next level.
