Mastering tooling costs with cutting fluid

As a worldwide metalworking fluid supplier, Master Fluid Solutions has now launched its a brand new ‘neo-synthetic’ product developed for the aerospace industry, HyperSol™ 888NXT. Currently, the metalworking industry has synthetic, semi-synthetic, micro-emulsions, emulsions and straight oils. The patented HyperSol™ 888NXT does not fit any of these categories.

Master Fluid Solutions has created an entirely new category of fluid. It is ideal for machining hard metals such as grades of stainless steel, titanium and nickel-based alloys, but also provides both incredible levels of lubrication and cooling.

This fluid was formulated to pass aerospace approval test requirements utilising new material technologies to deliver low foam, low odour and a long-running lifespan while meeting the strictest environmental regulations. The premium-grade water-soluble metalworking fluid replaces soluble oils that contain harmful sulphur molecules that cause corrosion, create odour and damage the materials being machined.

HyperSol™ 888NXT has been approved by SAFRAN Aircraft Engines to specification PR6300 Index A, SAFRAN Landing Systems PCS-4001/4002 and Rolls-Royce Specification CSS130.  It also conforms to Airbus AIMS 12-10-00.

This new product provides exceptional results, as one top-ranking European supplier to major companies, including Airbus has experienced. The manufacturer has eight sites across the continent and is dedicated to providing reliable, on-schedule production.

As aerospace manufacturers are constantly striving to produce quality parts with lower production costs through reduced usage of consumable items, such as cutting tools, Master Fluid Solutions recommended a trial of HyperSol™ 888NXT in parallel with their existing metalworking fluid. Installed into two CNC lathes machining 35NCD16 steel alloy for four months, the aerospace parts manufacturer increased their tool life by 234%, while running at a higher cutting speed with a much lower top up concentration. HyperSol™ 888NXT also produced no foam or odour, an added bonus for the health and wellbeing of employees.

Based on the company using HyperSol™ 888NXT in these two machines, in just one year the customer decreased metalworking fluid spend by 7.6%. However, the increased tool life and productivity gains, will save an additional 20.2% or £56,807 in costs over a 12-month period. For the high-precision aerospace parts manufacturer, using HyperSol™ 888NXT proved to be the solution it needed to increase tool life.
