ITC introduces heavy roughing platform

Wednesday 15 September 2021, 3:06:13 PM

Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has now introduced a new milling platform from WIDIA that offers reduced set-up times and inventory costs by utilising a single tool for multiple operations when milling steel and cast iron. The release of the M8065HD indexable milling platform for heavy-duty milling operations has been designed with eight cutting edges and extra-wide chip gashes. This makes the M8065HD capable of achieving deep depths of cut while generating high metal removal rates during face milling applications.

The Tamworth cutting tool specialists already have an armoury of high material removal solutions and the new WIDIA M8065HD will further enhance the available offering for manufacturers. WIDIA Senior Global Portfolio Manager Christine Schneider says: “Face milling is one of the most common machining operations, so we have designed a versatile and cost-effective solution that delivers substantial improvements in metal removal rates for our customers when cutting steel and cast iron. The M8065HD represents a turnkey solution for general engineering, energy and automotive customers that want to reduce their face milling tooling inventory and increase their machining output.”

Engineered with a 65-degree approach angle and a 6.35mm thick insert, the M8065HD has one universal insert geometry in three versatile grades, the WP35CM, WK15CM and the WU20PM. The WP35CM grade targets all types of steels, while the WK15CM grade is designed for cast iron materials and performs best in dry applications. It can also be used in wet conditions. The universal WU20PM grade can be used for the machining of steel, stainless steel and high-temperature alloys in both dry and wet applications.

All inserts are designed with a 2.37mm wiper facet to provide superior reliability and exceptional surface finishes. These key design features coupled with eight cutting edge inserts enable customers to reduce the overall machine set-up times and inventory costs by utilising one tool for multiple operations.

The M8065HD indexable milling cutters are available in nine metric diameter ranges between 50mm and 315mm and one insert geometry. The tool bodies incorporate a large wall area on the insert pocket seat to stabilise the insert seat and this stability is further enhanced by a strong M4.5 insert screw for secure clamping. The two bodies also have an extra-wide chip gash design for efficient chip evacuation, which is particularly useful as the new M8065HD is capable of taking depths of cut up to 9mm deep.
