STM Chooses IBARMIA’s ZVH60 MULTIPROCESS to Drive Oil & Gas Production Forward

Norwegian manufacturer STM, a specialist in high-precision components for the Oil & Gas industry, has recently expanded its machining capabilities with the installation of an IBARMIA ZVH60/L6000 MULTIPROCESS machine — an advanced and highly customised solution that delivers exceptional flexibility, stability, and power.

Based in Bergen, STM selected this particular machine configuration to meet the rigorous demands of machining complex components from challenging materials like 316L stainless steel. The project was successfully delivered in collaboration with KASPO, IBARMIA’s distributor in Norway since 2012.

Tailored for Performance

The ZVH60 acquired by STM isn’t a standard model — it’s tailored with a comprehensive range of advanced options that support multi-functional and high-volume production, including:

  • Z-axis travel of 1300 mm
  • Integrated rotary table Ø1200 mm (500 rpm, 6000 kg load)
  • Horizontal table Ø630 mm, up to 1800 rpm
  • Two long Sandvik Silent Tool boring bars (Ø80 x 1200 mm and Ø120 x 1900 mm)
  • KOMET U-axis head for BX-type groove machining (70 mm stroke)
  • MADAULA angle head integrated into the tool magazine
  • Internal cooling at 70 bar, dual air filtration
  • Tool magazine with 80 CAPTO C8 tools
  • Renishaw RMP60 and APCS-45 probing systems
  • Multiple ATLING manual/hydraulic supports for long part stability
  • Heidenhain KinematicsOpt for head calibration
  • NSM software & hardware enabling pendulum machining

Together, these features enable the ZVH60 to perform a wide range of processes, from vertical and horizontal turning to complex 5-axis milling, using special heads and long tools — all on a single platform.

Stable Cutting and High Precision

One of the most notable achievements from this installation is the performance of the long boring bars on difficult materials. STM reports “exceptional cutting stability and perfect surface finishes,” highlighting the machine’s rigidity and vibration-damping performance.

Utilising Edge Cam and tailored post-processors, STM has been able to exploit the machine’s full capabilities, including simultaneous turning and milling operations using A and C axes.

Continued Success in Norway

This project also reinforces the strong presence IBARMIA has developed in the Norwegian market, with over 15 machines already installed. Through its close partnership with KASPO, IBARMIA continues to provide high-value solutions for demanding sectors, particularly Oil & Gas.

Founded in 2006, STM has grown into a trusted supplier with a turnover exceeding €2.3 million, and this latest investment underscores its commitment to high-tech manufacturing and production excellence.
