Strong partnerships are often cited as a key ingredient for manufacturing success, and during a recent visit to VTR Feeder Solutions, MTDCNC discovered exactly why those relationships matter.
The visit provided an opportunity to speak with Ken McKillop, Head of Global Operations at VTR Feeder Solutions, whose career with the company spans more than 23 years. Beginning on the shop floor, McKillop worked his way through a variety of roles before progressing into senior leadership, helping guide the company’s continued growth and global expansion.
As VTR has increased its manufacturing capabilities and invested in new equipment over the years, supplier relationships have played an important role in supporting that growth. One such partnership is with Elliott Matsuura Canada, a relationship that has been built through consistent support, technical expertise, and a commitment to customer success.
During an interview with MTDCNC, McKillop spoke candidly about the company’s approach to equipment purchasing, explaining that every investment decision involves evaluating multiple options and suppliers before a final decision is made.
That process makes long-term supplier relationships even more significant. Rather than relying on history alone, suppliers must continue to earn their place by delivering value, service, and support throughout the life of the equipment.
The strength of the relationship was perhaps best summarised by VTR Feeder Solutions CEO Jim Hills, who described the experience of working with Elliott Matsuura by saying, “They make us feel like we’re their only customer.”
For MTDCNC, the visit highlighted an important reality within modern manufacturing. While advanced technology and machine tools are critical to growth, the relationships behind those investments often have an equally significant impact on long-term success.
MTDCNC would like to thank Jim Hills, Ken McKillop, Joe Molnar, and the teams at VTR Feeder Solutions and Elliott Matsuura Canada for sharing their insights. The full interview will be released across MTDCNC channels in the coming weeks.
