SIA Engineering and Safran Aircraft Engines Establish Joint Venture to Expand LEAP Engine MRO Capabilities in Singapore!
SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) and Safran Aircraft Engines have entered into a strategic joint venture agreement to establish a dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility for CFM LEAP engines in Singapore. The new venture represents a significant investment in aviation maintenance infrastructure and is expected to strengthen support for one of the world’s fastest-growing aircraft engine platforms while reinforcing Singapore’s position as a leading aerospace hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The agreement marks a major milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies and follows the Letter of Intent signed in November 2025 to expand LEAP engine maintenance services in Singapore. The partnership combines Safran Aircraft Engines’ original equipment manufacturer (OEM) expertise with SIAEC’s extensive experience in aircraft maintenance, engineering, and technical services, creating a powerful platform to meet the growing demands of the global aviation industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, Safran Aircraft Engines will hold a 51 percent stake in the joint venture, while SIAEC will own the remaining 49 percent. The new company will focus on providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, which power some of the most widely operated next-generation single-aisle aircraft in the world.
The LEAP engine family, developed through CFM International—a 50:50 joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace—has become one of the aviation industry’s most successful engine programs. Designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, lower operating costs, and enhanced reliability, LEAP engines power aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo family and Boeing 737 MAX. As airlines continue modernizing fleets with fuel-efficient aircraft, demand for comprehensive engine maintenance services is expected to rise significantly.
SIAEC currently performs LEAP engine Quick Turn maintenance operations on behalf of Safran Aircraft Engines at its Aircraft Engine Services facility in Changi North. These existing activities will be integrated into the new joint venture and serve as the foundation for a next-generation MRO center capable of supporting a broader range of engine maintenance and overhaul services.
The new facility is expected to substantially increase engine shop visit capacity and provide airlines with access to advanced maintenance solutions designed to improve turnaround times, enhance fleet reliability, and maximize aircraft availability. By expanding regional maintenance capabilities, the joint venture will help airline operators reduce downtime and maintain operational efficiency in an increasingly competitive aviation environment.
The investment comes at a time when the global LEAP engine fleet is expanding rapidly. Airlines around the world continue to add new-generation narrow-body aircraft to their fleets as they seek greater fuel efficiency and lower environmental impact. The Asia-Pacific region, in particular, is projected to remain one of the fastest-growing aviation markets, creating strong demand for localized engine support services and advanced MRO infrastructure.
Industry leaders from both organizations view the partnership as a natural progression of their longstanding relationship. Wong Yue Jeen of SIAEC highlighted that the joint venture builds upon years of successful collaboration and combines OEM-level expertise with world-class maintenance capabilities. The initiative is expected to enhance customer support while strengthening SIAEC’s ability to service advanced aircraft engine technologies.
From Safran’s perspective, the venture is a critical step in expanding its global LEAP engine support network. Nicolas Potier, Executive Vice President of Support & Services at Safran Aircraft Engines, emphasized that the facility will help address rising maintenance demand throughout Asia-Pacific while delivering high levels of service quality, operational reliability, and customer support.
The partnership also aligns with broader trends within the aviation industry, where airlines increasingly seek maintenance providers capable of supporting technologically advanced engines while minimizing turnaround times and operational disruptions. As engine technologies continue to evolve, collaboration between OEMs and specialized MRO providers has become essential for ensuring efficient lifecycle support.
For Singapore, the establishment of the new facility further strengthens its reputation as a leading global aerospace and aviation services hub. The country has developed a robust aerospace ecosystem supported by advanced infrastructure, a highly skilled workforce, and strong connectivity to major aviation markets throughout Asia.
The joint venture also reinforces the strategic importance of the Asia-Pacific region in the global aviation supply chain. With air travel demand expected to continue growing over the coming decades, investments in engine maintenance capabilities will play a crucial role in supporting airline expansion and fleet modernization programs.
By combining Safran Aircraft Engines’ world-leading propulsion expertise with SIAEC’s extensive MRO capabilities, the new venture is well positioned to become a key center for LEAP engine support in Asia. The collaboration will not only help airlines maintain operational efficiency and fleet reliability but also contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the region’s aviation industry.
As the global fleet of LEAP-powered aircraft continues to expand, the new Singapore facility will serve as a critical component of the worldwide engine support network, ensuring that airlines have access to high-quality maintenance services capable of meeting the demands of modern commercial aviation.
