Axil named in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for third time amid rapid growth
The official Sunday Times Best Places to Work, powered by WorkL, has been published, recognising the Best Places to Work in the United Kingdom.
Axil has been named in the list for the third time, as the business continues to scale while maintaining strong employee engagement across a complex operational environment.
Axil is a UK leader in total waste and resource management, working with manufacturers and critical services to reduce waste, improve compliance and recover value from complex material streams. The business combines embedded on-site teams with data-led insight, automation and digital reporting tools to deliver full-service waste operations across recycling, recovery, treatment and hazardous waste.
It operates across more than 200 customer sites in the UK, supporting organisations in sectors including automotive, aerospace, food production and pharmaceuticals, and works with customers such as BMW Group, Beko Europe, The Royal Mint, CBRE and Roxel.
Since 2018, Axil has grown from 34 employees to nearly 300 and now generates over £56m in revenue.
The company’s latest employee engagement results show consistency across core areas of the employee experience. 91% of employees report a strong relationship with their manager, 89% feel safe at work, and 87% say they are proud to work for Axil, enjoy their job and feel respected.
Ed Pigg, Axil Chief Executive, said the recognition reflects how the business operates day to day, not how it is described externally.
“Culture only holds if the basics are done well every day – how people are supported, how decisions are made and how issues are dealt with on the ground. As we’ve grown, the challenge has been keeping that consistent across the organisation.”
Axil operates a “Just Culture” approach, encouraging open reporting of safety and operational issues without blame, supported by embedded on-site teams and structured feedback loops designed to resolve issues at source.
The business continues to invest in employee recognition, wellbeing support and development pathways as it scales.
Lord Mark Price, Founder of WorkL, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted for this year’s winners of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, powered by WorkL. Many brilliant companies entered the Awards in the hopes of being recognised, so it’s a real achievement to have made the list. WorkL are proud to power these Awards and support organisations in retaining and recruiting the very best employees.”
For Axil, the third inclusion reflects a business that has grown quickly while maintaining stability in how its people experience work every day.
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list is based on independent employee feedback and an assessment of workplace culture, leadership and wellbeing.
