Sandvik Coromant has expanded its CoroDrill DE10 tooling range with the introduction of the new -M5F and -M5C geometries, further enhancing the drill’s versatility and optimization capabilities for short-hole drilling applications. The latest additions strengthen the CoroDrill DE10 platform as a highly adaptable drilling solution capable of delivering reliable performance across a broad range of materials and machining environments.

Designed to meet the evolving demands of modern manufacturing, the CoroDrill DE10 is an exchangeable-tip drill system built around a specialized pre-tension interface that enables quick, secure and user-friendly tip changes. This innovative design helps reduce setup time and simplify tool handling while maintaining consistent drilling accuracy and stability during operation.

The CoroDrill DE10 concept has been specifically engineered for drilling solid materials with consistent surface quality and dependable process reliability. According to Sandvik Coromant, the system is capable of delivering high productivity, predictable performance and a wide application range, making it particularly suitable for mixed-material production environments where flexibility and efficiency are essential.

A major highlight of the expanded tooling line is the introduction of the -M5F geometry, which has been developed for flat-bottom hole applications and advanced drilling operations. This geometry is especially effective when creating start holes on complex components or in applications where a precise flat-bottom profile is required. The -M5F geometry is also well-suited for stepped-hole machining, where it can be used for the largest hole diameter before transitioning to other drill geometries within the CoroDrill DE10 assortment.

The second addition, the -M5C geometry, has been optimized specifically for cast iron machining applications. Featuring reinforced corners and improved wear resistance through the use of Sandvik Coromant’s GC3334 grade, the geometry is designed to withstand the demanding conditions often associated with cast iron drilling. In addition to cast iron, the -M5C geometry can also complement the existing -M5 design in ISO P, M and S materials where increased corner strength and durability are required.

The original -M5 geometry within the CoroDrill DE10 range was developed to enable manufacturers to use a single drill tip across multiple materials, helping reduce tooling inventory and simplify production planning. With the addition of the new geometries, users now gain greater optimization possibilities without sacrificing operational simplicity or ease of use.

Beyond productivity improvements, the CoroDrill DE10 system also contributes to sustainability and cost-efficiency in machining operations. The tooling concept enables higher cutting parameters, faster penetration rates and lower cutting forces, which can significantly reduce machining time and lower the overall cost per hole. Reduced cutting forces also help decrease machine load and energy consumption, contributing to lower CO₂ emissions during production.

The expanded CoroDrill DE10 lineup reflects Sandvik Coromant’s continued focus on delivering innovative tooling solutions that address the growing need for efficiency, flexibility and sustainability in modern manufacturing. By combining quick-change functionality, application versatility and advanced geometry optimization, the tooling system provides manufacturers with a dependable solution for high-performance short-hole drilling across a wide variety of industrial applications.
