About the HP 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing Center of Excellence

Opened in June 2019, the HP 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Barcelona is one of the largest and most advanced research and development facilities globally. Spanning over 150,000 square feet (the size of three football fields), it brings together hundreds of the world’s top additive manufacturing experts. The center is dedicated to transforming the way industries design and manufacture products, with a focus on sustainable technological innovation.

The facility is a hub for collaboration, uniting experts in engineering, data intelligence, materials science, design, and 3D printing applications. It is home to HP’s industrial 3D printing portfolio and serves as a large-scale factory environment for developing next-generation technologies in digital manufacturing.

HP’s Christoph Schell, President of 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing, shared, “This new Center of Excellence is one of the largest and most advanced 3D printing and digital manufacturing research and development centers on earth – it truly embodies our mission to transform the world’s biggest industries through sustainable technological innovation.”

The center brings together BASF, GKN Metallurgy, Siemens, Volkswagen, and other industry leaders across sectors like automotive, industrial, healthcare, and consumer goods to drive new 3D printing and digital manufacturing innovations.

HP’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the center’s eco-friendly features, including a photovoltaic canopy for power, rainwater reuse systems, and natural light optimization, aiming for LEED certification.

The Barcelona Center significantly expands HP’s global footprint in 3D printing and digital manufacturing, joining other HP innovation hubs in Corvallis, Oregon, Palo Alto, California, San Diego, California, Vancouver, Washington, Barcelona, and Singapore.

Stay tuned to MTDCNC for more updates from Lyndsey Vickers as she explores this revolutionary facility and brings you all the latest from one of the world’s leading centers of digital manufacturing.
