Mazak North America has launched SmartBox 2.0, a cutting-edge device designed to enhance connectivity and cybersecurity for machines across diverse manufacturing environments. Building on the original SmartBox technology, SmartBox 2.0 integrates advanced communication protocols and industrial-grade edge computing, aiming to provide improved productivity, secure data handling, and real-time monitoring capabilities.

The updated SmartBox 2.0 introduces MQTT (message queuing telemetry transport) and OPC (open process communications) protocols, which improve data exchange and interoperability with a variety of industrial systems. Equipped with an industrial-grade edge computer, SmartBox 2.0 supports robust machine monitoring and analytics while integrating advanced cybersecurity protection tailored to factory environments. SmartBox 2.0’s edge computing capabilities address the latency challenges often associated with cloud-based data transfer by allowing data processing directly on the machine.
