OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

Tuesday 4 August 2020, 2:58:11 PM

In 1983 our founder and now Chairman, Jeffrey Williams, purchased our first CNC lathe to work along side our Single Spindle Autos and Multi spindle Autos. That machine was a Miyano ENC 3 BC and the cost was £59,212.00. We all thought he’d gone mad (given the fact that you could’ve purchased several small homes for that amount of money at the time). The control was Fanuc 6TB and programmes were prepared using an NC Tape Punching Machine then loaded to the control via a Magnetic Tape Cassette Unit. Bar capacity was 42mm . It revolutionised our business overnight.

37 years on, our Miyano has lost it’s barfeed and bares many a battle scar around the body but still earns good money as a 2nd Op chucker. Testament to the absolute quality achieved by the machine tool builder, this machine has had more bangs than a blacksmiths hammer but will not give up on us – a fair return on initial investment.

With a heavy heart we are saying goodbye to our old friend. It is going off to enjoy semi-retirement in sunnier climes because we need the floorspace for one of it’s grand children………………..

OUR BRAND NEW MIYANO ABX 64 SYY2 TURNING CENTRE

The ink is just dry on the Puchase Order and we are waiting for confirmation of a delivery date but we cannot wait to get aquainted with this beast of a machine. With twin spindles, twin turrets and twin ‘Y’ axis it will certainly broaden our offerings to market and allow us to produce highly complex, tight tolerance components in one operation. The addition of Hainbuch chucks will also ensure that changeover times from bar to billet work will be minimised ensuring maximum cost saving per part.

Our young apprentice from 1983, Andrew Barker, learned his trade on our old Miyano. The new machine was his first purchase since joining the Board of Directors and he cannot wait to get his hands on it.

Put his old head and our new machine to the test – we’re sure you’ll be delighted with the outcome.

We look forward to receiving your enquiries
