MTDCNCLast viewed Empire Manufacturing recently had a visit from the guys at MTD. They did a video showcasing Empire's machine shop and some of the investment they had undertaken. As a result of this they got a call asking if they could do some highly complex components in difficult materials. So after MTD put out our latest video I got an enquiry from somebody that saw it. He wanted to know two things. 1. would we be interested in doing small batches of highly complex components out of difficult materials, this was of course a yes! And 2. Where did we get our metal rack from. (We made it ourselves so couldn’t help them there.) Anyway, we got chatting about business in general and different jobs we had done, I was getting a positive feeling from the guy. One evening when I saw my dad I told him about this new contact and showed him the emails. My dad read them and when he saw the name at the end he said, to my surprise “yea I know that name, I used to do work for his dad 20 years ago.” (My Dad had a different company called Wade Engineering back then, unfortunately two big customers went bust on him owing a lot of money which meant he then went bust too). I couldn’t believe it. When I spoke to my [now] customer the next day I told him that our dads have history, he remembered my dad and some of the jobs he had done for them and even the name of the industrial park that my dad’s company was on at the time. Shortly after this we received our first order which we are doing now. I hasten to add that we didn’t get the order because of our fathers history, that was just a happy coincidence. The part we are making for them has a 1.3mmØ hole x 72mm deep. That’s just over 55xD!!
