Soraluce Achieves LEED Gold Certification for Eco-Efficient Assembly Plant

Soraluce, a prominent provider of milling, boring, multifunction, and automation solutions, has recently earned the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate for its newly inaugurated assembly plant at its headquarters in Bergara’s Osintxu district.

The state-of-the-art plant, unveiled in June 2023 by Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu Renteria, spans 2,500 m² (part of Soraluce’s total manufacturing area of 30,000 m²), featuring both an industrial section for machine assembly and an annex building housing offices and changing rooms.

At Soraluce, the ethos of staying ahead and continuously striving for improvement drives a keen awareness of environmental, social, and industrial challenges. The LEED GOLD certification awarded to the new assembly plant underscores Soraluce’s commitment to sustainability, marking it as the first in its sector to achieve this distinction.

This accomplishment showcases Soraluce’s dedication to environmentally sustainable practices and the construction of advanced, sustainable buildings that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings. The LEED certification, bestowed by the US Green Building Council, acknowledges organizations’ efforts to design, construct, and operate buildings that prioritize environmental friendliness and resource efficiency.

Key aspects of the project contributing to this prestigious certification include building geometry, envelope design, glazing, facade orientation, water consumption reduction, land use, landscaping, and considerations for the project’s life cycle, among others.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  1. Energy Efficiency: Integration of technologies and practices for significant energy consumption reduction, with a 131 kW photovoltaic installation providing 55% of the building’s energy needs.
  2. Water Management: Innovative strategies for sustainable water usage, including consumption reduction and the implementation of recycling systems.
  3. Sustainable Materials: Selection of construction materials and finishes that minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable production.
  4. Indoor Environmental Quality: Focus on creating healthy and comfortable indoor spaces for occupants, enhancing productivity and well-being.
  5. Location and Transport: Allocation of 5% of parking spaces for preferential use by ECO vehicles with charging sockets, along with the installation of bicycle racks to encourage eco-friendly mobility.

Rafael Idigoras, Managing Director of Soraluce, expressed pride in achieving this milestone, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the team, reaffirming Soraluce’s leadership in fostering a greener, more sustainable future.

The LEED GOLD certification not only underscores Soraluce’s excellence in business management but also reinforces its position as an industry leader committed to building a more sustainable future. With a legacy of over six decades of revolutionizing the industry, Soraluce continues to set new standards and paths towards a greener tomorrow.

Soraluce’s new assembly plant not only expands its local industrial capacity but also enhances the value of industrial land, contributing to the public urban development of the Osintxu neighborhood in Bergara. Additionally, as part of the Osintxu Bizi project, Soraluce actively contributes to the sustainable development and improvement of the neighborhood’s economic, urban, environmental, and social aspects, further solidifying its commitment to creating a positive impact on society and the environment.
