Why Now Is The Perfect Time To Invest In Production Control Software
In the ever-evolving subcontract precision engineering industry, standing still is not an option. A business that…
PSL Datatrack is a well-known production control software system designed specifically for subcontract precision engineering companies, intended to take users through all the administration and engineering steps to win and manufacture a job (starting with a quotation and ending at the point of invoice). So what about the company behind the software?
Prospec Systems Limited is a privately owned independent business that has been supplying flexible software solutions to subcontract precision engineers for over 30 years (est. 1988). All software design, development, testing and support is provided from our offices in Bracknell, Berkshire, making PSL Datatrack a wholly UK-based product with no overseas resources involved.
This means that if you pick up the phone to speak to us you are guaranteed to talk to a member of our specialist team, based at the business’ headquarters. We are proud to support British Manufacturing and our background skills in Information Technology, engineering, business management and accounting mean we are able to provide economic and effective software solutions, support and consultancy.
We are committed to providing a practical, simple and logical approach to controlling production and in essence offer an off-the-shelf, bespoke product. The system is modular, meaning you don’t have to invest in a full suite of business controls but can instead select the modules and features you need to run your business efficiently. As your business grows or your requirements change, modules can then be added.
The system is modular because it is our fundamental belief that one size of production control software does not fit all. The beauty of PSL Datatrack is that it can be used to control production in small machine shops (including owner-managed businesses) and larger business with 100+ employees. Smaller companies often do not have the same requirements as larger organisations as their staff are closer to the ‘cutting edge’ of their business. In this case, the core modules are typically sufficient whilst for larger, more segmented businesses additional modules including scheduling, Shop Floor Data Collection (SFDC), quality and tooling can be added, if required.
We are proud to say that we always have, and always will, work closely with our customers to tailor software solutions to help them get the best from their PSL Datatrack systems. The complete product has in excess of 1300 configuration options, many of which have a choice of settings as opposed to a straight yes/no, which can be individually set to the needs of the customer. We also have an active Wishlist system where customers can submit ideas for future development and can commission new features if a client has a more urgent requirement.
Information gives you knowledge as well as power and it is invaluable to get that information distributed to your entire workforce. With this in mind, one element that we work closely with our customers on is reporting. Many of them have embraced our dynamic Status Board displays with colouring and content configured to their exact requirements. These boards can provide status, instruction and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Nobody ever needed training to read arrival and departure boards at an airport and we’ve taken the same approach to providing information throughout our customers’ business. All systems can also generate customer-specific reports, which once produced can be emailed, exported or printed straight from PSL Datatrack.
Numerous testimonials from customers who have benefitted from our approach are available at www.psldatatrack.com/news. Our Managing Director, Geoff Gartland, and MTD CNC’s Colin Griffiths discuss some of these as well as many of the above points in the Technical Corner video below.
