ZF Group Expands India Footprint with €20 Million Facility in Coimbatore!

ZF Group, the German technology leader in driveline and chassis solutions, has further strengthened its presence in India by opening its 19th manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This new plant, which spans 10,000 square meters and represents an investment of €20 million (₹192 crore), is strategically focused on producing axles and transmissions for the construction equipment and railway sectors. The facility marks a significant milestone in ZF’s vision of “Make in India for India and the World,” highlighting its commitment to both domestic production and global supply chain integration.

This new facility will produce three key product lines: ERGOPOWER M transmissions for construction equipment, which offer automatic powershift technology and promise up to 15% better fuel efficiency; MULTITRAC axles, designed for compactness and high torque with reduced braking losses; and EcoMet transmissions, which are tailored for metro rail applications with a modular design that is compatible with various train models. These products are integral to meeting the growing demand for advanced, energy-efficient solutions in the construction and railway sectors.

The Coimbatore plant is part of ZF’s continued investment in India, with the company now having established 11 manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu alone, solidifying the state’s role as a key industrial hub for the company. This expansion is a direct response to India’s burgeoning infrastructure needs, providing a strategic advantage to ZF by bringing production closer to its customers while reinforcing its innovation goals. Dr. Peter Laier, a member of the ZF Board and Head of Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology, emphasized that India is a strategic market for ZF due to its growing infrastructure demands and engineering expertise.

Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India, further supported this sentiment, calling India a future manufacturing leader. He stated, “Our strategy combines domestic opportunity with global delivery. With this facility, we are ready to support both.” The Coimbatore facility is also designed to support ZF’s export requirements, supplementing production from its German hub and enhancing the company’s ability to meet the growing global demand for construction and railway applications.

With a global network of 161 manufacturing sites across 30 countries and a workforce of approximately 161,600 employees, ZF Group generated €41.4 billion in sales in fiscal 2024. The Coimbatore facility underscores ZF Group’s ongoing commitment to India’s manufacturing landscape and is poised to become a significant contributor to both domestic industrial growth and international supply chains. Through this strategic investment, ZF is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the construction, railway, and other industrial sectors worldwide.
