Yamaha’s Chennai Plant Celebrates 10 Years of Excellence, Rolls Out 5 Millionth Unit!

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. (IYM) has achieved a remarkable milestone as its Chennai manufacturing facility marks ten years of operations. The plant also celebrated the production of its five millionth two-wheeler, an Aerox 155 Version S, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of Yamaha’s global manufacturing network. Established in 2015, the Chennai facility has played an integral part in Yamaha’s growth, contributing significantly to both domestic and international markets.

The Chennai plant is home to the production of popular models such as the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and Aerox 155 Version S, catering primarily to the Indian market. It also exports key models like the FZ series, Saluto range, and Alpha scooter to various international markets, with exports accounting for over 30% of the plant’s total output. This export focus underscores the strategic importance of the Chennai facility within Yamaha’s global operations.

Spanning 177 acres, with 109 acres dedicated to IYM and 68 acres allocated to co-located vendor partners, the facility operates under an integrated ‘One Factory’ model, which enhances manufacturing efficiency and streamlines supply chain integration. This collaborative approach ensures a smoother production process and strengthens Yamaha’s competitive edge in the global market.

Yamaha has also prioritized sustainability at the Chennai plant, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. The facility features a 4,450 kW solar power system, zero-water discharge capabilities, and wastewater recycling processes, all contributing to a significant reduction in the plant’s carbon footprint. These initiatives align with Yamaha’s global commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, emphasized the strategic importance of the Chennai facility in Yamaha’s global manufacturing network. He remarked, “The Chennai factory holds strategic importance in Yamaha’s global manufacturing network. It exemplifies our focus on people, processes, and products, driven by skilled employees, synchronised operations, and a commitment to global quality standards.”

The completion of a decade at the Chennai facility marks a significant achievement in Yamaha’s journey in India, reflecting the company’s dedication to innovation, quality, and sustainability as it continues to grow in both domestic and international markets.
