Unveiling Innovations: Must-See Highlights at GrindingHub 2024

GrindingHub 2024 is set to be the premier event for the grinding technology sector, running from May 14-17 in Stuttgart. Ahead of the main exhibition, 14 exhibitors provided a sneak peek of their latest innovations to 30 international trade journalists on March 21. This exclusive preview showcased groundbreaking products and technologies that will be on display, highlighting the event’s role as an international innovation platform.

“We are delighted that so many international companies, from start-ups to global players, have seized this opportunity to engage with potential visitors ahead of time and share their highlights,” said Martin Göbel, Head of Trade Fairs and Events at VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association), the host of GrindingHub.

The preview featured key players such as Adelbert Haas GmbH (Germany), Amiad Machining Fluid Filtration (Israel), Anca Europe GmbH (Australia/Germany), CemeCon AG (Germany), DMG Mori (Japan/Germany), Erwin Junker Maschinenfabrik GmbH (Germany), Fives Group (France), Meister Abrasives AG & Alfons Schmeier GmbH & Co. KG (Switzerland), Mitsubishi Electric BV (Japan/Germany), Pureon AG (Switzerland), STA Separatoren-Technik & Anlagenbau GmbH (Germany), Spanflug Technologies GmbH (Germany), and United Grinding Group Management AG (Switzerland). The event also featured umati, the joint connectivity initiative by VDW and VDMA, and the ‘Grinder of the Year’ competition for young talent.

Peter Breuer from the Manufacturing Technology Institute (MTI) at RWTH Aachen University, delivered a keynote on ‘Digital Assistance Systems in Grinding Technology,’ emphasizing the importance of bridging the gap between research and industrial production. This keynote highlighted GrindingHub’s commitment to advancing practical applications of scientific research.

Strong Growth and International Participation

Since its debut, GrindingHub has rapidly grown in prominence. Göbel reported that exhibitor interest remains high, with 487 exhibitors from 31 countries registered, representing 40 sectors of the grinding process chain. The largest contingents come from Germany, Switzerland, China, Italy, and Japan.

Economically, the grinding technology sector performed exceptionally well in 2023, with German production surging by 15% to €1.1 billion, outpacing the overall machine tool industry’s growth of 9%. Exports rose by 15%, imports by 11%, and consumption by 13%, making Germany the world’s second-largest market for grinding technology. This robust performance underscores the sector’s resilience and the importance of events like GrindingHub in fostering growth.

Despite the positive figures from 2023, the outlook for 2024 is less optimistic, with a slowdown in incoming orders. Göbel emphasized the critical role of GrindingHub in stimulating recovery and growth in the sector. The exhibition provides a crucial platform for companies to showcase innovations, forge partnerships, and drive economic momentum in challenging times.
