Toyota Motor Corporation has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility through Toyota Kirloskar Motor in the Bidkin Industrial Area of Maharashtra, further strengthening the company’s long-term manufacturing and market expansion strategy in India. The upcoming plant will focus on SUV production and is expected to significantly enhance Toyota’s manufacturing footprint in the country while supporting future automotive demand across India and nearby markets.

The proposed facility will have an annual production capacity of approximately 100,000 vehicles and is scheduled to begin operations during the first half of 2029. Initially, the plant is expected to generate employment for around 2,800 people, contributing to industrial growth and economic development in the region.

The new manufacturing site will include key automotive production operations such as stamping, welding, painting and final vehicle assembly. According to the company, the facility will initially manufacture a new SUV model, reflecting the growing demand for sport utility vehicles in the Indian automotive market.

Toyota’s investment in Maharashtra highlights the company’s continued confidence in India as a strategic manufacturing and growth market. India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing automotive markets globally, with increasing consumer demand, expanding infrastructure and rising interest in utility vehicles, hybrid technologies and localized manufacturing.

The Bidkin Industrial Area has been gaining importance as an emerging industrial and manufacturing hub due to its infrastructure development, connectivity and government-backed industrial initiatives. Toyota’s decision to establish operations in the region is expected to further strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a major automotive manufacturing destination.

According to the company, the new factory will help enhance Toyota’s production flexibility and responsiveness to evolving market conditions. By expanding local manufacturing capabilities, Toyota aims to better address future customer demand while improving supply chain efficiency and operational agility across India and neighboring export markets.

Toyota also emphasized the importance of India within its broader global manufacturing strategy. The company acknowledged the valuable experience and insights gained from its long-standing presence in the Indian automotive sector and highlighted its commitment to strengthening local production capabilities to support sustained market growth.

The expansion aligns with Toyota’s broader objective of building a robust production framework capable of responding quickly to changing consumer preferences and industry requirements. Localized production is increasingly important for global automakers as they seek to improve cost competitiveness, reduce supply chain dependencies and enhance market responsiveness.

In addition to supporting manufacturing growth, Toyota stated that the new facility is expected to contribute to the broader development of India’s automotive ecosystem and local communities. The company emphasized collaboration with stakeholders, regional authorities and local communities as an important aspect of the project’s development and long-term success.

Industry experts view the investment as part of a larger trend of global automotive manufacturers increasing their manufacturing presence in India to support domestic demand, export opportunities and evolving mobility requirements. The continued expansion of automotive infrastructure and supplier ecosystems in India is also encouraging companies to localize production and strengthen regional operations.

The new Bidkin facility is expected to support supplier development, job creation and advanced automotive manufacturing capabilities while reinforcing Toyota’s long-term commitment to the Indian market. It also reflects the company’s focus on sustainable growth, localized manufacturing and future-ready production infrastructure within one of the world’s most important automotive markets.

With the establishment of the new SUV manufacturing plant, Toyota continues to deepen its industrial presence in India while positioning itself to capture future growth opportunities in the rapidly evolving automotive sector.
