Siemens AG, a global leader in technology and infrastructure solutions, is significantly expanding its factory capacity in India as part of the Make in India initiative. The company aims to meet the growing local and international demand for solutions in power generation, transmission, distribution, and rail transportation. This move underscores Siemens’ commitment to supporting India’s infrastructure modernization and its long-term economic growth.
Since 2015, Siemens has invested over Rs 9,000 crore in India, with an additional Rs 1,100 crore announced in November 2023. The company is focused on expanding its operations to address both the increasing local needs and global demand, a commitment emphasized by Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, at ELECRAMA 2025. With 32 factories and over 34,000 employees in India, Siemens is well-positioned to support the country’s ambitious economic and infrastructure goals.
Siemens’ focus is aligned with India’s priorities in digitalization, energy efficiency, and grid management, where the company’s expertise is essential. Siemens is playing a pivotal role in modernizing India’s power transmission and distribution networks, particularly in support of clean energy initiatives. Additionally, Siemens is contributing to India’s rail transportation sector by providing advanced solutions that promote efficiency and sustainability, including locally developed low-voltage power distribution solutions, which are not only powering India’s electrification but also being exported worldwide.
As India moves toward its vision of becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, Siemens is actively supporting this mission by participating in public-private partnerships and major infrastructure projects. Rebellius highlighted Siemens’ role as a reliable partner in these efforts, noting that infrastructure-related ministries are encouraged to create a three-year pipeline of projects for investment, and Siemens is already a trusted player in this space.
With expanded factory capacities and ongoing investments, Siemens is poised to drive innovation and sustainability in India’s infrastructure and energy sectors, furthering the country’s goals of industrial self-reliance and enhanced global competitiveness.
