Shyam Metalics Expands into Aluminium Flat Rolled and Foil Products with New Sambalpur Facility!
Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited is set to strengthen its downstream manufacturing capabilities with the launch of a new aluminium facility in Sambalpur. Developed through its step-down subsidiary Smel Steel Structural, the upcoming plant is nearing readiness for commercial production and marks a strategic move into value-added aluminium products.
The facility will produce aluminium flat rolled products (FRP) with an installed capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum, covering thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 4.0 mm. In addition, it will manufacture aluminium foil with a capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum, catering to thickness ranges between 6 and 40 microns. These capabilities are aligned with growing demand across industries that require precision-engineered, lightweight, and high-performance aluminium materials, including packaging, automotive, construction, and consumer goods.
This expansion reflects Shyam Metalics’ broader strategy of diversification and value addition, moving beyond primary metal production into higher-margin downstream segments. By focusing on flat rolled and foil products, the company aims to capture greater value across the supply chain while strengthening its position in India’s evolving manufacturing ecosystem.
The new Sambalpur facility is also expected to reduce India’s reliance on imports of specialised aluminium products, supporting domestic industries with locally manufactured, high-quality materials. Its strategic location offers logistical advantages, enabling efficient distribution to both domestic and international markets, which is critical for maintaining competitiveness in a globalised supply environment.
From a financial perspective, the project is anticipated to deliver strong performance improvements. With a higher share of value-added products in its portfolio, the company expects operating margins to improve by approximately 40 to 50 percent. Additionally, revenue growth is projected to accelerate significantly, with estimates suggesting a two to two-and-a-half-fold increase over the medium term, driven by improved realisations and expanded market reach.
The facility also enhances the company’s integrated manufacturing model by strengthening its downstream capabilities. This integration allows for better control over the value chain, improved efficiency, and the ability to respond more effectively to market demands. It also opens up new revenue streams and positions the company to tap into high-growth sectors that depend on advanced aluminium solutions.
Beyond its business impact, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of Odisha. It aligns with national initiatives focused on boosting domestic manufacturing, enhancing self-reliance, and promoting industrial growth under India’s broader economic agenda.
Leadership at the company has emphasised that the new facility represents a key milestone in building a robust aluminium ecosystem. By combining scale, technology, and market-focused production, Shyam Metalics is positioning itself to play a larger role in both domestic and global aluminium markets while supporting sustainable industrial development.
