SEMI, the global industry association for the semiconductor and electronics value chain, has formed a strategic alliance with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), marking a significant step toward advancing India’s semiconductor sector. IESA will now be part of the global SEMI family, serving as its affiliate in India while gradually adopting SEMI processes and projects. This partnership aligns with the upcoming SEMICON India 2024 event, focused on bringing together global leaders and stakeholders under the theme “Shaping the Semiconductor Future.”
This collaboration aims to strengthen India’s efforts to become a “Semiconductor Powerhouse” by bolstering its design and manufacturing capabilities. Together, SEMI and IESA plan to enhance local manufacturing, promote workforce development, improve international competitiveness, and drive technological independence. SEMI members will gain direct access to India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor market, unlocking new business opportunities.
Dr. Veerappan, Chairperson of IESA, and Ashok Chandak, President of IESA, emphasized that the partnership will position India as a global semiconductor hub, contributing to economic growth and fostering innovation. The collaboration will also focus on policy advocacy with central and state governments, leveraging programs like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Design Linked Incentive (DLI) to promote product development and manufacturing.
