Sakthi Aircraft Industry, a joint venture between Tamil Nadu’s Sakthi Group and Austria’s Diamond Aircraft, has announced its plans to manufacture 150 trainer aircraft in India, marking a significant milestone for the country’s aviation industry. The company will assemble 150 of the 200 DA40 NG trainer planes at its upcoming facility in Haryana, India. This announcement was made by the company’s Managing Director & CEO, Vaibhav D, during a press event held on Tuesday.
In line with this development, an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between the Aero Club of India and Sakthi Aircraft Industry during the event in New Delhi. The Aero Club has consolidated aircraft orders from various Flying Training Organizations (FTOs), which is expected to play a crucial role in the expansion of aviation training infrastructure in India.
The initiative was welcomed by Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, who stressed the importance of supporting FTOs to maintain global standards in India’s aviation sector. Aero Club of India President and Lok Sabha member Rajiv Pratap Rudy also hailed the historic order of 200 trainer aircraft, marking a new chapter for India’s aviation sector.
Sakthi Aircraft Industry, leveraging the combined expertise of the Sakthi Group and Diamond Aircraft, aims to significantly contribute to the strengthening of India’s aerospace sector. The company is focused on manufacturing various types of aircraft, particularly trainer planes, for both the civilian and defense sectors. This collaboration is expected to boost the development of indigenous aviation technology in India, creating a substantial impact on both the domestic and international aviation industries.
As part of this collaboration, Sakthi Aircraft Industry has secured a major order for the assembly of 150 DA40 NG trainer aircraft for the Indian market. The planes will be produced at a new state-of-the-art facility being established in Haryana. The new facility will play a vital role in fulfilling the larger contract for 200 trainer aircraft with a global Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partner, further strengthening India’s capabilities in aircraft manufacturing.
