Romi Introduces DCM 620-5X VMC for Stable, High-Precision Five-Axis Machining!
Romi BW Machine Tools has introduced the DCM 620-5X vertical machining center (VMC), a high-performance solution designed for simultaneous five-axis machining and complex multi-sided operations. Engineered to deliver both flexibility and precision, the machine enables manufacturers to produce intricate components in a single setup, reducing handling time and improving overall productivity.
The DCM 620-5X is built to handle complex geometries with ease, allowing five-sided and full five-axis machining within one cycle. This capability significantly enhances throughput while improving dimensional accuracy and surface finish, making it ideal for industries requiring high-precision components such as aerospace, automotive, and advanced engineering.
At the core of the machine’s performance is its rigid cast-iron structure, combined with linear roller guides across the X, Y, and Z axes. A high-stiffness rotary/tilting table, powered by independent B- and C-axes, ensures excellent stability and positional accuracy during demanding machining operations. This robust mechanical design allows for consistent cutting performance and reduced vibration, even under high loads.
The machine features a direct-drive ISO 40 spindle capable of reaching speeds up to 15,000 rpm, supported by a 22-hp (16.5-kW) motor. This direct-drive configuration improves torque transmission and minimises vibration, enabling efficient high-speed machining. Additionally, an integrated thermal compensation system continuously monitors operating conditions and applies real-time adjustments to maintain precision over extended production runs.
The 600 × 600 mm rotary table can accommodate workpieces weighing up to 500 kg, with B-axis movement ranging from -50 to +110 degrees and a full 360-degree C-axis rotation. This wide range of motion allows access to multiple surfaces without repositioning, further reducing setup time and improving machining efficiency.
Control is managed by the Siemens Sinumerik One, featuring a 24-inch display and advanced five-axis capabilities. The system enables high-speed processing, smooth toolpath execution, and precise surface generation, supporting complex machining requirements.
Standard features include a 30-tool automatic tool changer and a fully enclosed work area. Optional enhancements such as linear scales, in-process probing, tool presetting, and high-pressure through-spindle coolant provide additional flexibility, allowing manufacturers to customise the machine for specific applications.
Overall, the DCM 620-5X reflects the growing demand for versatile, high-precision machining solutions capable of handling complex parts efficiently. By combining advanced kinematics, robust construction, and intelligent control, Romi’s latest VMC offers a reliable platform for modern manufacturing environments.
