Praj Industries Partners with Enersur to Develop Advanced Biorefinery in Paraguay!

Praj Industries, a leader in renewable energy solutions, has joined forces with Enersur SA, one of Paraguay’s prominent renewable energy companies, to establish an integrated biorefinery in the country. The facility, which will produce ethanol along with a variety of byproducts, including DDGS (Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles), corn oil, biogas, biobitumen, and sustainable aviation fuel, marks a significant step in advancing Paraguay’s renewable energy initiatives.

The agreement was formalized during the official visit of Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios to India from June 2 to 4, 2025. During this visit, President Peña, along with top ministers and industry representatives, expressed admiration for India’s technological advancements, particularly recognizing Praj Industries for its contributions to Paraguay’s renewable energy ambitions.

This collaboration is a continuation of Praj’s previous work with Enersur, which awarded the company a contract to deliver a 600 m³/day anhydrous ethanol plant in Canindeyú, Paraguay, utilizing corn as the primary raw material. The new biorefinery is slated to be operational by October 2026 and is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting clean energy production, creating jobs, and promoting rural development in the region.

Praj Industries will be responsible for licensing process technology, providing detailed engineering, supplying equipment, and offering site support for the biorefinery. This project aligns with Paraguay’s clean energy objectives and will significantly contribute to the country’s efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman of Praj Industries, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This partnership represents more than ethanol production—it reflects our commitment to building a strong and future-ready bioeconomy in Paraguay. Together, we aim to unlock the full value of renewable resources for sustainable energy and economic progress across South America.”

Omar Bustos, President of Enersur SA, praised Praj for its expertise and successful execution of large-scale bioenergy projects globally, stating, “We selected Praj for its advanced technology and global experience in bioenergy projects. Their focus on sustainable solutions and established presence in South America made them the ideal partner for this transformative project.”

The biorefinery project comes at a time when both India and Paraguay are deepening their cooperation in agriculture and renewable energy. During the state visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Peña discussed ways to enhance agricultural productivity through innovation and further strengthen clean energy partnerships.

This project also marks an expansion of Praj Industries’ footprint in Latin America, where the company has already implemented over 100 projects across countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. The partnership with Enersur in Paraguay further solidifies Praj’s position as a key player in advancing sustainable energy solutions in South America.
