LM Wind Power Sells Polish Blade Factory to Vestas in Strategic Shift

Wind energy giants LM Wind Power and Vestas have confirmed a strategic transaction that will see LM Wind Power’s blade manufacturing facility in Goleniów, near Szczecin, Poland, transferred to Vestas. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, marks a significant step in expanding Vestas’s European manufacturing footprint and advancing secure, affordable, and sustainable energy production across the EU.

The Goleniów facility, established in 2009 and expanded in 2017, currently manufactures blades for Vestas’s onshore wind turbines and will continue operations under its new ownership. The site will remain a critical production hub, including for blades used on Vestas’s V172-7.2MW turbines, further enhancing the company’s ability to meet Europe’s rising renewable energy demands.

Anders Nielsen, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Vestas, said:
“Europe needs secure, affordable and sustainable energy more than ever, and we are pleased to expand our European manufacturing footprint to support wind energy’s growing role in Europe’s energy system. I want to thank LM Wind Power for its collaboration and look forward to this site playing a continued role in Vestas’s success.”

The move aligns with LM Wind Power’s parent company, GE Vernova’s, strategy to streamline operations and reinvest in core EU manufacturing facilities that serve GE Vernova wind solutions.

Hanif Mashal, CEO of LM Wind Power, commented:
“This proposed transaction is a strategic move for LM Wind Power and GE Vernova. It allows us to simplify our business and focus investment into our core EU facilities. We’re grateful to Vestas for their long-standing partnership and are committed to a smooth transition that ensures the continued success of the Goleniów factory.”

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close later in 2025. Once complete, the facility will become an integral part of Vestas’s operations, bolstering its leadership as the world’s most prolific wind turbine installer — with over 190GW of turbines installed across 88 countries.

This acquisition is a further indication of Vestas’s commitment to strengthening local manufacturing within the EU, creating resilient supply chains and supporting Europe’s clean energy ambitions.
