Jupiter International to Establish End-to-End Solar Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra!

Jupiter International Ltd, a leading manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) cells and provider of solar energy solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to establish a fully integrated solar manufacturing facility in Butibori, Nagpur. With an estimated investment of ₹10,900 crore, this state-of-the-art plant will encompass the entire solar manufacturing value chain, from wafer production to advanced cell fabrication and module assembly. The ambitious project highlights both Jupiter’s long-term commitment to India’s clean energy sector and Maharashtra’s position as a rising hub for renewable energy investment.

The planned facility will be among the most comprehensive solar manufacturing hubs in the country, reinforcing India’s ambitions of achieving greater self-reliance in renewable energy technologies under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. By integrating all stages of production under one roof, the Butibori plant is expected to significantly reduce import dependency while ensuring cost efficiency, scalability, and improved quality control across the solar supply chain.

A key aspect of the project is its potential to generate large-scale employment opportunities in the region. According to company estimates, the new facility will create over 8,300 direct and indirect jobs, providing a major boost to local employment while also supporting skill development in advanced solar manufacturing technologies. This move not only strengthens the regional economy but also contributes to India’s broader green energy and sustainability goals.

Speaking on the announcement, Alok Garodia, Managing Director of Jupiter International Ltd, emphasized the company’s dual focus on industrial growth and sustainability. “This initiative demonstrates our dedication to strengthening India’s clean energy sector through advanced manufacturing and regional development. We appreciate the support extended by the Government of Maharashtra in bringing this vision to life,” he said.

Jupiter International already operates two photovoltaic cell manufacturing facilities in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, each with a production capacity of 500 MW. These facilities have positioned the company as a trusted supplier of solar technology solutions. However, the upcoming Nagpur plant marks a transformative step in Jupiter’s expansion strategy by establishing a robust, vertically integrated solar infrastructure with significantly larger capacity and end-to-end capabilities.

The timing of this investment is particularly significant, as India continues to scale its renewable energy capacity to meet ambitious national targets. The government has set a goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030, with solar expected to contribute the lion’s share. By building one of the most advanced and comprehensive solar production hubs in the country, Jupiter International is well positioned to play a key role in supporting this transition and helping India achieve its climate commitments.

In addition to strengthening domestic supply chains, the new facility is expected to enhance India’s competitiveness in global solar markets. With demand for renewable energy technologies soaring worldwide, the plant could serve as both a domestic supplier and an export hub for solar products.

Through this bold investment, Jupiter International is setting a benchmark for the industry by combining technological advancement, sustainable energy development, and regional economic growth. The Nagpur project represents not only a milestone for the company but also a significant step toward realizing India’s vision of becoming a global leader in renewable energy manufacturing.
