Hindustan Zinc Recognized as India’s Leading Integrated Silver Producer at India Silver Conference 2025!

Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company, was honored as India’s Largest Integrated Silver Manufacturer for 2024 at the India Silver Conference 2025, held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This prestigious recognition highlights the company’s operational excellence, strategic initiatives, and role in fulfilling the growing global demand for silver, particularly within industries contributing to the clean energy transition.

Hindustan Zinc, one of the world’s top five silver producers, has made significant strides in its silver production capabilities. The company’s silver production is completely refined using renewable energy at its Pantnagar facility, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and clean energy practices. The company’s achievements were showcased at the conference, with exhibits that included London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)-certified silver bars of 30 kg and 1 kg purity (99.99%), as well as galena ore samples from the Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajasthan, which is ranked among the top five silver-producing mines globally.

The conference began with a keynote address from Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, who emphasized the vital role of silver in the modern industrial landscape, particularly in technologies like solar photovoltaics, electric vehicles, high-end electronics, and medical diagnostics. Misra highlighted the increasing demand for silver in clean energy infrastructure and the company’s role in meeting this demand through its sustainable practices. He stressed that Hindustan Zinc’s silver production plays a pivotal part in advancing clean energy solutions, marking the company as a key enabler of the global transition towards greener technologies.

Since its privatization in 2002 and acquisition by Vedanta, Hindustan Zinc has experienced an impressive 20-fold increase in silver output. Before this transformation, India heavily relied on imported silver, but Hindustan Zinc’s remarkable growth has allowed the company to become a cornerstone of the country’s industrial sector while reducing its dependence on imports.

Vijay Murthy, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Hindustan Zinc, participated in panel discussions during the conference, further emphasizing silver’s growing importance across emerging technologies. He reinforced Hindustan Zinc’s strategic relevance in the context of the rising demand for silver in modern industrial applications, particularly those linked to sustainability.

Hindustan Zinc’s pavilion, aptly themed “At the CORE of the Clean Energy Transition,” attracted considerable attention with its innovative design. The pavilion featured an immersive 3D augmented reality experience, which allowed attendees to explore the company’s underground mining operations in Bhilwara and its smelting facilities in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan—both of which are among the largest globally. This engaging presentation provided delegates with insights into the company’s extensive mining and production capabilities.

Hindustan Zinc’s product portfolio, including silver bars and silver powder, adheres to international quality and ethical sourcing standards. The Pantnagar Metal Plant, which handles silver production, is accredited under the LBMA’s Responsible Silver Guidance framework, ensuring that its operations are traceable and sustainable.

The company’s commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by its recognition in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024, where it was named the World’s Most Sustainable Metals and Mining Company. Hindustan Zinc continues to set industry benchmarks for environmental and social performance, supporting both India’s economic development and the global shift toward clean energy.

As part of its dedication to sustainability, Hindustan Zinc launched EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon green zinc brand, produced entirely with renewable energy. The company is also proud to be a certified 2.41 times water-positive enterprise and is actively working toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Hindustan Zinc’s efforts in silver production, sustainability, and clean energy are setting a global standard for responsible resource management, making it a crucial player in both India’s industrial sector and the worldwide transition to renewable energy.
