GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd. has expanded its clean mobility partnership with Tata Steel Limited through the deployment of LNG-powered heavy commercial trucks at Tata Steel’s Meramandali facility in Odisha. The initiative marks another step in the companies’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions from industrial logistics operations and promote cleaner transportation solutions across India’s supply chain ecosystem.

The LNG-powered truck fleet was officially flagged off at Tata Steel’s Meramandali plant located in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. The facility is an important manufacturing site for flat steel products that serve sectors such as automotive, construction, infrastructure, and engineering industries. The deployment is aimed at supporting lower-emission long-haul freight transportation while improving sustainability across industrial logistics networks.

The partnership reflects the growing focus among Indian industries on decarbonising transportation operations and reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered freight vehicles. As manufacturing and logistics sectors face increasing pressure to lower emissions and improve energy efficiency, alternative fuel technologies such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) are gaining importance as viable transitional solutions for heavy commercial transport.

According to GreenLine, LNG-powered trucks can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% compared to traditional diesel trucks. In addition to lowering CO₂ emissions, LNG vehicles also help reduce particulate matter and harmful pollutants such as sulphur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), contributing to cleaner and more environmentally sustainable logistics operations.

The company stated that its LNG-powered trucks offer long operational ranges suitable for industrial freight transportation. The vehicles are capable of travelling up to 1,200 kilometres on a single LNG fill and as much as 2,400 kilometres when equipped with dual fuel tanks. These capabilities make LNG trucks particularly suitable for long-distance freight corridors and large-scale industrial supply chain operations.

GreenLine Mobility Solutions currently operates a fleet of more than 1,000 LNG and electric-powered trucks across key logistics routes throughout India. The company serves multiple industries, including steel, cement, mining, FMCG, chemicals, and industrial manufacturing sectors. According to company data, its clean mobility fleet has collectively covered more than 90 million kilometres while helping reduce over 24,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The latest deployment at Tata Steel’s Meramandali facility aligns with GreenLine’s broader long-term strategy to expand sustainable freight transportation infrastructure across the country. The company plans to deploy more than 10,000 LNG and electric commercial vehicles in the coming years as part of its clean mobility roadmap.

In parallel, GreenLine is also developing a nationwide energy infrastructure network that will include approximately 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery-swapping facilities. The infrastructure expansion is intended to support wider adoption of alternative fuel commercial transportation across India’s logistics and industrial sectors.

Madhur Taneja, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions, stated that LNG is emerging as a scalable and practical alternative fuel solution for India’s long-haul logistics industry, particularly as companies increasingly focus on reducing emissions and improving fuel security.

Prabhat Kumar highlighted the importance of logistics partnerships in helping industries advance sustainability objectives and reduce the environmental impact of supply chain operations.

GreenLine operates as part of the Essar Group’s green mobility initiatives and continues to focus on building cleaner freight transportation solutions for industrial customers. Meanwhile, Tata Steel has been actively expanding sustainability measures across its manufacturing, energy, and logistics operations as part of its broader environmental and decarbonisation strategy.

The expanded partnership between GreenLine and Tata Steel reflects the increasing adoption of cleaner transportation technologies within India’s industrial ecosystem and underscores the growing importance of sustainable logistics infrastructure in supporting the country’s long-term climate and industrial development goals.
