GE Aerospace Announces ₹100 Crore Investment to Expand Pune Manufacturing Facility
GE Aerospace has announced a fresh investment of ₹100 crore in its Pune manufacturing facility, further strengthening its manufacturing capabilities in India and reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s growing aerospace sector. The latest investment will support advanced manufacturing technologies, production expansion, workforce development, and improved precision engineering capabilities for global aerospace engine programs.
The new investment is aimed at enhancing the Pune facility’s operational capabilities through the introduction of advanced welding technologies, precision inspection systems, specialized tooling, gauges, fixtures, and additional infrastructure upgrades. According to the company, these enhancements will improve manufacturing accuracy, increase production efficiency, and strengthen the facility’s ability to produce high-quality aerospace engine components for customers worldwide.
The announcement adds to the approximately ₹410 crore already invested by GE Aerospace in the Pune facility over the past two years. With the latest expansion, the company’s cumulative investment in the site has now crossed ₹510 crore over a three-year period. Earlier investments were focused on automation, advanced manufacturing systems, and expanding capabilities for next-generation aerospace engine component production.
The Pune facility plays an increasingly important role within GE Aerospace’s global manufacturing network and supports several major aerospace engine programs. The latest investment will further strengthen production capabilities for engine platforms including the GE90, GEnx, and GE9X engines, along with the LEAP engine program produced by CFM International, the joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
These engine programs are widely used across commercial aviation fleets globally and are known for supporting long-range, fuel-efficient, and next-generation aircraft operations. As global aviation demand continues to recover and expand, the need for precision aerospace manufacturing and reliable supply chains has been increasing significantly.
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune manufacturing facility, stated that the continued investments reflect GE Aerospace’s long-term confidence in India and the strategic importance of the Pune site within the company’s worldwide manufacturing operations. He noted that the expansion will not only strengthen support for global customers but also create additional opportunities for apprentices, employees, and supplier partners associated with the facility.
Over the past decade, the Pune facility has evolved into a major aerospace manufacturing hub focused on advanced precision engineering and high-quality component production. The site has also contributed significantly to the development of India’s aerospace supplier ecosystem and has become an important part of GE Aerospace’s global supply chain network.
Currently, the Pune facility works with more than 300 local suppliers and forms part of a broader network of over 2,200 GE Aerospace suppliers across India. Through these partnerships, the company continues supporting the growth of domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities while contributing to global aviation programs using locally manufactured components.
Workforce development remains another major focus area for GE Aerospace in India. The company stated that its structured two-year apprenticeship program enrolls more than 500 apprentices annually, combining classroom education with hands-on technical training. In addition, the company’s dedicated Weld School provides specialized TIG welding training to develop skilled aerospace manufacturing professionals for the industry.
Since 2015, the Pune facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates, helping strengthen India’s technical talent pipeline for aerospace manufacturing and advanced engineering operations. The company has also supported technical education and workforce development initiatives in the region through various community and skill development programs.
The latest investment further reinforces GE Aerospace’s broader strategy of expanding its engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain footprint in India. Having maintained a presence in the Indian aviation sector for more than four decades, the company continues to support both commercial and defense aviation programs through engines, systems, manufacturing operations, engineering services, and supplier partnerships across the country.
