Collins Aerospace, a global leader in aerospace technology and manufacturing, is making India a pivotal location for sourcing aviation equipment. By leveraging the country’s competitive manufacturing capabilities, skilled workforce, and cost advantages, the company aims to deliver innovative avionics, interiors, and aero structures to the Indian market. These components are already integral to major commercial platforms like Boeing and Airbus, which dominate India’s aviation industry.
The company has invested $200 million in research and development as well as manufacturing facilities, primarily around Bengaluru’s airport region. These investments underscore Collins Aerospace’s commitment to fostering innovation and bolstering its capabilities in the Indian aerospace sector. Additionally, the corporation is exploring further investments to enhance manufacturing, aftermarket services, and engineering operations, ensuring long-term growth and collaboration within the industry.
Bengaluru holds a unique position for Collins Aerospace as its only global facility that integrates all six of the company’s portfolios. These include avionics, interiors, advanced structures, and connected aviation solutions. This makes Bengaluru a critical hub for the company’s innovation and production, enabling it to better serve global markets while reinforcing India’s status as a strategic partner in the aerospace sector.
The establishment of India as a key sourcing hub also aligns with the company’s broader objectives of strengthening the aerospace ecosystem. Regional suppliers are expected to play a significant role, contributing to industry growth and creating a more robust supply chain. In addition to commercial aviation, Collins Aerospace supports defense projects, supplying components such as the LCA Tejas Mk1 to the Indian Air Force, further emphasizing its diverse contributions to India’s aerospace landscape.
Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace, highlighted the significance of this move, stating, “Bengaluru is our only facility worldwide that engages with all six of our portfolios, underscoring its strategic importance in innovation and production.” This initiative is not just a testament to Collins Aerospace’s confidence in India’s capabilities but also a step forward in accelerating the growth of India’s aerospace and defense industries.
