Cisco [NASDAQ: CSCO] has expanded its partnership with NVIDIA to offer advanced AI solutions to enterprises, addressing the growing demand for AI-driven transformation. As businesses recognize the importance of AI for growth, many face challenges with the technical complexities and security requirements of AI-ready data centers. This collaboration aims to provide enterprises with flexible, high-performance, low-latency, and power-efficient connectivity across data centers, clouds, and end-users, enabling them to effectively support AI workloads.
In this partnership, the core is the NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking platform, which integrates Cisco and NVIDIA silicon to support enterprise AI workloads. By enabling interoperability between the two companies’ networking technologies, the collaboration offers simplified, full-stack solutions tailored to meet customer needs. This unified architecture will allow businesses to optimize AI infrastructure investments and seamlessly use existing management tools and processes.
Chuck Robbins, Cisco’s Chair and CEO, commented, “Enterprises face pressure to implement AI rapidly and effectively. Our partnership with NVIDIA helps eliminate obstacles, enabling customers to optimize their infrastructure investments and fully realize AI’s potential.” Meanwhile, Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, emphasized that “AI’s rapid evolution is set to transform every industry,” and with Cisco’s enterprise platforms, they can help businesses build cutting-edge AI infrastructures.
The expanded collaboration will provide advanced features like adaptive routing, telemetry, congestion control, and low-latency capabilities within the NVIDIA Spectrum-X platform. Cisco’s extensive portfolio of networking, security, and digital resilience, including Splunk’s data platform, will further ensure that AI projects remain secure as they evolve.
Jim Kavanaugh, Co-Founder and CEO of World Wide Technology, highlighted that the partnership between Cisco and NVIDIA has already led to groundbreaking AI solutions. This expanded collaboration will enable customers to adopt AI with greater confidence, simplifying deployment and enhancing workload performance. The joint solutions will also incorporate Cisco Silicon One, making it the only partner silicon supported in Spectrum-X Ethernet solutions.
The companies are working to create data center switches powered by NVIDIA Spectrum Ethernet, offering customers an open ecosystem that allows for greater choice and adaptability. The partnership also aims to validate NVIDIA Cloud Partner and Enterprise Reference Architectures, integrating technologies like NVIDIA Spectrum-X, Cisco Silicon One, Hyperfabric, Nexus, UCS Compute, and Optics.
As they focus on key challenges such as congestion management and load balancing, this ongoing collaboration promises to deliver innovative, secure, and scalable solutions that will help businesses effectively manage complex workloads and accelerate their AI deployments. The companies plan to update their Silicon switches to support Spectrum-X and NVIDIA’s reference architectures, with new products expected to roll out by mid-2025.
