CG Power Expands into Semiconductor Design with Acquisition of Renesas RF Components Business!

CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd, a leading electrical engineering company under the Murugappa Group, has announced its strategic entry into the semiconductor design sector by acquiring the Radio Frequency (RF) components business of Renesas Electronics Corporation. The acquisition was formalized through an asset purchase agreement, between CG Power and Renesas Electronics America Inc., along with other affiliated entities holding the RF component assets.

Through this acquisition, CG Power will gain critical assets including Intellectual Property (IP), physical assets, and key employees in semiconductor design, marketing, and applications related to RF components. This move is set to enhance CG Power’s capabilities in the semiconductor design space, positioning it for growth in a high-demand sector.

Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd, emphasized that this acquisition will strengthen India’s role in the rapidly expanding semiconductor industry, noting the importance of Indian designers in the global market. He views the deal as a strategic step to capitalize on the growth potential and profitability of the semiconductor sector.

Davin Lee, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Analog and Connectivity Group at Renesas, expressed confidence that the RF team will thrive under CG Power’s leadership, allowing Renesas to sharpen its focus on core analog and connectivity segments.

This acquisition marks a major step for CG Power as it diversifies into the semiconductor technology space, positioning itself for future growth in a sector crucial to India’s tech-driven ambitions.
