BorgWarner Secures Three New Electric Motor Contracts Across China and South Korea!

BorgWarner Inc. has secured three new electric motor business awards from leading automotive manufacturers in China and South Korea, strengthening its position in the rapidly expanding electrified mobility market across Asia.

The contracts cover both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid vehicle programs, with production expected to begin in phases between June 2026 and September 2027. The awards highlight growing demand for BorgWarner’s advanced eMotor technologies as global automakers accelerate electrification strategies and expand electric and hybrid vehicle portfolios.

According to Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner and President and General Manager of PowerDrive Systems, the agreements reflect customer confidence in the company’s engineering expertise, local manufacturing capabilities, and scalable high-performance motor technologies.

A key technology featured in the new contracts is BorgWarner’s proprietary S-winding electric motor design. The technology is engineered to improve efficiency and power density while maintaining compact packaging, making it particularly suitable for next-generation hybrid and electric vehicle platforms where space optimisation and energy efficiency are critical.

In South Korea, BorgWarner has been selected to supply stator assemblies for a new electric B-segment SUV platform. The award builds upon an existing collaboration with the same automaker, where BorgWarner previously supplied its hairpin motor technology for a multi-purpose electric vehicle program. Production for the new SUV platform is scheduled to begin in September 2027.

In China, the company will supply its patented S-winding technology for a P2 electric motor designed for plug-in hybrid vehicle applications. The system is engineered to integrate with 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, delivering strong power performance within a compact architecture. Production for the Chinese hybrid program is expected to commence in February 2027.

The latest awards further strengthen BorgWarner’s footprint in Asia, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for electric and hybrid mobility solutions. China remains the largest global EV market, while South Korea continues expanding investments in advanced automotive technologies and electrified transportation systems.

BorgWarner has been actively investing in electric propulsion technologies, including eMotors, power electronics, battery systems, and integrated electric drive modules, as part of its broader strategy to transition toward sustainable mobility solutions.
