Aptiv PLC and Comau have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at developing next-generation intelligent automation technologies for industrial applications. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two companies plan to combine expertise in robotics, artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, and autonomous systems to create smarter, safer, and more scalable industrial automation solutions.

The partnership focuses on co-developing advanced robotics systems, autonomous technologies, and automated warehouse and logistics solutions designed to improve operational efficiency, worker safety, and industrial productivity. Both companies stated that the collaboration is intended to simplify industrial automation adoption while reducing the cost and complexity that have traditionally slowed implementation across manufacturing and logistics sectors.

Aptiv will contribute its advanced perception, compute, software, and connectivity technologies, including its Wind River edge computing platforms and Aptiv PULSE sensor and interconnect solutions. These technologies are designed to enable real-time sensing, decision-making, and autonomous operation at the edge, supporting increasingly intelligent industrial environments.

Comau, known for its expertise in robotics and large-scale industrial automation deployment, will provide deep application knowledge and real-world operational experience across manufacturing and industrial systems. The company’s established capabilities in robotics integration and industrial automation are expected to complement Aptiv’s digital and AI-driven technologies.

One of the primary focus areas of the collaboration is the development of advanced robotics solutions. The companies aim to create next-generation perception systems and reference architectures for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Collaborative Robots (CoBots), enabling more intelligent and adaptive robotic operations in industrial settings.

The partnership will also target AI-enabled warehouse and logistics automation. Comau’s Automha logistics software will be enhanced using Wind River’s cloud and edge technologies to strengthen AI and machine learning capabilities. This is expected to improve system intelligence, operational efficiency, and the ability to optimise logistics and warehouse operations in real time.

Another key area of focus is the development of high-performance interconnect solutions, including rugged cabling and connectors designed specifically for demanding robotic and industrial environments. These solutions are intended to improve reliability, durability, and system performance in automated operations.

The collaboration also aims to advance radar- and vision-based industrial safety systems. By integrating advanced sensing and monitoring technologies, the companies plan to develop safety architectures that improve worker protection while reducing operational complexity and cost.

The partnership builds on Comau’s existing use of Wind River’s VxWorks operating system in its industrial controllers and seeks to expand integration across Aptiv’s broader portfolio of sensing, computing, and connectivity technologies.

Overall, the collaboration reflects the growing convergence of robotics, AI, edge computing, and industrial automation as manufacturers increasingly move toward intelligent, autonomous production and logistics systems. By combining complementary strengths, Aptiv and Comau aim to accelerate the adoption of scalable automation technologies that can support safer, more efficient, and future-ready industrial operations across multiple sectors.
