Ambuja Cements, part of the Adani Group, announced its membership in the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID), a global initiative aimed at advancing the transition to Net Zero emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. As the first cement manufacturer globally to join AFID, Ambuja Cements is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
With a production capacity of 78.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), Ambuja Cements is India’s second-largest cement producer. Karan Adani, Non-Executive Director, highlighted that the company is already among the lowest in emission intensity globally and is continuously implementing strategies to further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Through AFID, Ambuja Cements aims to leverage global expertise in its decarbonization journey.
In line with its green energy goals, the company has committed ₹10,000 crore to renewable energy projects, targeting 1 GW capacity and 376 MW from Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS) to meet 60% of its power needs from renewable sources by FY2028. In FY2024, Ambuja Cements utilized over 8.6 million tonnes of waste-derived resources, becoming 11 times water-positive and 8 times plastic-negative.
This partnership with AFID, led by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), reflects Ambuja Cements’ continued efforts to advance sustainability and environmental responsibility in the cement industry.
