A retrofitting project by KUKA has brought new life to a long-serving palletizing robot at backaldrin The Kornspitz Company GmbH. Originally installed in the 1990s, the robot had operated reliably for over 30 years. The challenge faced by the bakery was the dwindling availability of spare parts, as a complete redesign of the production layout was not feasible.
KUKA provided a targeted retrofit solution, replacing only essential components while maintaining the core palletizing process. Central to this upgrade is the integration of a KR IONTEC robot equipped with the advanced KR C5 controller. This strategic intervention resulted in a state-of-the-art palletizing cell, implemented within just one week during planned downtime.
The retrofit ensures higher flexibility, preparing the system for future product adjustments, and enhancing system availability. This approach represents a smart investment aligned with actual production requirements, offering an efficient solution for extending the life of existing robotic assets.
KUKA, known for its innovations in automation and robotics, continues to support manufacturers with tailored solutions that maximise operational efficiency without necessitating a complete overhaul. This project serves as a testament to their ability to deliver adaptive and sustainable manufacturing solutions.
