Machine Makers put their first Haas, an ST-15 lathe in just over a year ago and its gone wild since then

Machine Makers was started 3 years ago by Anthony & Gina Matijasevich having bought an existing workshop that had been running for  20 years.  With that workshop they purchased an array of existing CNC machines including  3 axis Mills and Lathes from various manufacturers.

What they discovered was that they were just another “3 axis shop” and getting new business proved to be difficult.  Their Engineering Manager came back from visiting customers and said “We need a 5 axis”. So they went shopping!

Their main 2 considerations were  Support & Support. They needed to buy from a company that placed support as their highest priority. At the time the Haas HFO had 3 factory trained technicians that provided the required level of comfort, that their machine assets would be looked after. Even when Aotea machinery closed its doors (The previous agent) Haas USA stepped in and said that they had us covered (Until Machinery House took over)

Then there was Karl Medley… Karl examined all their needs and provided the most detailed and thought through Machine proposals. They really trusted his guidance.

They bought their UMC-750 5 Axis mill and this paid off dividends straight away by securing work that would not have been possible in their previous workshop setup.

For Machine Makers, the real benefits of the later model machinery were:

* Automatic tool probing and checking:  Increases accuracy, “lights out” machining ability and requires a lower skill base to run
* Machines being able to run unattended and powering down safely (True lights out operation)
* Remote monitoring of the machines using the HassConnect phone app: This alerts you if a tool is broken, or that production has finished successfully for the evening and machine has powered down correctly.
* A common interface platform (Haas Next Generation Control) across all machines: This makes training and operation so much easier

So following this one brand formula the company has now bought their 4th new Haas machine which is a ST20Y, which has bought them unimaginable benefits, of being to turn and mill in one operation. This is perfect for the boutique style Low-Medium production run business that they are.

That’s Machine Maker’s story so far!
