DMG Mori Unveils Third-Generation LaserTec 30 SLM with Advanced Features for Enhanced Additive Manufacturing
DMG Mori has introduced the third generation of its LaserTec 30 SLM, a cutting-edge additive manufacturing (AM) machine that has been completely redesigned to meet the evolving needs of the industry. The new model features a robust and thermally stable cast structure, similar to those used in DMG Mori’s milling and turning machines, which ensures high precision and repeatability. With a fully overlapping quad laser system and a build volume of 325 x 325 x 400mm, the LaserTec 30 SLM is designed to appeal to a broad market segment.
A key innovation is the machine’s rigid cast structure, which is uncommon in AM machines but crucial for minimizing thermal expansion. The process chamber, isolated within the machine, allows for expansion and contraction without affecting the optics, ensuring consistent distance between the optics and the powder bed surface. This is achieved through the precise calibration of the bidirectional recoater and active compensation for any displacement in the Z-axis.
DMG Mori’s new rePLUG unit, an automated powder processing system, offers significant flexibility by allowing quick material changes and ensuring high-quality powder use. The system operates in a closed loop under an inert gas atmosphere, minimizing oxidation, moisture build-up, and operator exposure. Additionally, for the first time in the LaserTec SLM series, the machine allows the exchange of the build container while maintaining the inert gas atmosphere, further increasing efficiency by reducing downtime between builds.
The machine also includes advanced monitoring features, such as camera-based surface scanning after each recoater pass and a newly designed inert gas delivery system to maintain a consistent flow over the powder bed. Operator safety and usability have been prioritized, with the Celos X digital ecosystem guiding users through setup, maintenance, and powder refilling processes, reducing direct contact with powder and enhancing overall ergonomics.
