How Microtherm is Achieving 168 Hours of Production Per Week with a DN Solutions DVF 5000 and ROBOJOB Automation
By Lyndsey Vickers
As part of MTDCNC’s recent road trip across the Netherlands with Dormac and DN Solutions, we visited Microtherm to see first-hand how the company is embracing automation and lights-out manufacturing to maximise productivity.
For many manufacturers, the goal of running unmanned through the night remains just that – a goal. At Microtherm, however, it has become a reality.
The company has invested heavily in developing robust manufacturing processes that allow production to continue long after operators have left the building. Every aspect of the operation has been carefully considered, from machining strategies and workholding solutions to automation and process reliability.
Solving the Challenges of Unmanned Production
Running lights out isn’t simply about adding a robot to a machine tool. It requires a complete manufacturing strategy designed around reliability, repeatability, and process control.
During our visit, it was clear to see the level of engineering thought that has gone into the facility. The systems and procedures in place are designed to eliminate the common challenges manufacturers face when running unattended, helping ensure production continues smoothly around the clock.
The Final Piece of the Puzzle
One of the latest additions to the facility is a DN Solutions DVF 5000 5-axis machining centre paired with a ROBOJOB Tower automation system.
Installed earlier this year by Dormac, the production cell has quickly become a key asset within the business.
The combination of 5-axis machining capability and automated pallet handling enables Microtherm to keep production running for extended periods without operator intervention. The system is capable of delivering up to 168 hours of available production time per week and has already demonstrated the benefits of true lights-out machining.
A Great Example of Modern Manufacturing
Microtherm’s investment highlights how manufacturers can increase capacity, improve machine utilisation, and maximise output without increasing floor space or labour requirements.
By combining advanced machine tool technology with smart automation, the company has created a highly efficient production environment that is delivering tangible results.
A huge credit goes to Dormac and DN Solutions for helping implement a solution that is enabling Microtherm to push the boundaries of unmanned manufacturing.
