The initial three machines of a four-Starrag Heckert X40 horizontal machining centre-based flexible manufacturing system are installed and laser-aligned for the fully automated production of actuator components for Boeing 737 and 767 landing gear at Boeing Sheffield. The high-speed five-axis machines promise ultra-quick cycle times for the family of housings destined to be machined.
