Princess Auto, one of Canada’s leading retailers of tools, equipment, and industrial supplies, has officially opened its new flagship store in Winnipeg, marking a significant milestone in the company’s evolution and setting a new benchmark for customer-focused retail experiences. Located at 500 Panet Road, the expansive 100,000-square-foot facility officially welcomed customers on June 2 and introduces a fresh retail concept designed to go beyond traditional shopping.

The new flagship location reflects Princess Auto’s vision of transforming retail spaces into destinations where customers can learn, engage, collaborate, and experience products firsthand. Serving industrial professionals, tradespeople, farmers, contractors, hobbyists, and do-it-yourself enthusiasts, the store has been designed to create stronger connections between customers, products, and the community.

Unlike conventional retail outlets that primarily focus on transactions, the Winnipeg flagship emphasizes experiential retail. Visitors can interact with products, participate in demonstrations, gain practical insights, and engage with fellow enthusiasts in a dynamic environment tailored to support innovation and hands-on learning.

According to Ken Larson, President and CEO of Princess Auto, the new flagship store represents much more than a larger retail location. It serves as a testing ground for the company’s future retail strategy and demonstrates how Princess Auto intends to evolve alongside changing customer expectations.

The Winnipeg store introduces several unique features aimed at enhancing customer convenience and engagement. Customers will have access to an expanded product selection across key categories including recreation, hardware, electrical supplies, plumbing equipment, and industrial tools. The broader assortment ensures professionals and DIY users can find a wider range of solutions under one roof.

One of the most notable additions is the After Hours Support service, specifically designed to assist tradespeople and contractors who require urgent access to equipment or supplies outside regular business hours. This feature addresses the real-world challenges faced by professionals working on time-sensitive projects and emergency repairs.

Another standout feature is “The Shop,” a dedicated in-store workspace that enables customers to test products, showcase projects, conduct demonstrations, and even utilize the facility as an auxiliary workshop. By creating a space where customers can actively use and evaluate equipment, Princess Auto is fostering a more engaging and practical shopping experience.

The development of the flagship store also highlights Princess Auto’s commitment to the local community. The project was designed by Winnipeg-based architects and brought to life through the efforts of local contractors and skilled tradespeople. Company leadership emphasized that the store represents a collaborative achievement made possible through strong partnerships with community stakeholders and support from the City of Winnipeg.

The Panet Road location becomes the 59th store in the Princess Auto network and the 14th store opened under the leadership of third-generation owners Matthew Tallman and Marc Tallman. The company views the new format as an important step toward transforming retail locations into community hubs where customers can connect, learn new skills, and share experiences.

To celebrate the grand opening, Princess Auto has planned a month-long series of community events. Activities include motocross demonstrations, a Transcona tailgate party featuring the Grey Cup, and fundraising concerts by renowned Canadian artists Gord Bamford and Crash Test Dummies. Proceeds from these events will support the Princess Auto Foundation, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.

With its innovative design, customer-centric features, and strong community focus, Princess Auto’s new Winnipeg flagship store offers a glimpse into the future of retail—one where shopping, learning, and community engagement come together under a single roof.
