With an impressive career spanning more than 35 years, Nayar brings a wealth of experience across diverse business functions, including Retail, Lubricants, and Human Resources, making him one of the most seasoned leaders within the organisation.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Nayar has held several strategic leadership positions across different geographies and business verticals. His extensive exposure to fuel retailing, lubricants marketing, and people management has enabled him to develop a deep understanding of business operations, customer engagement, market expansion, and organisational development. His professional journey also includes a significant deputation at Indraprastha Gas Ltd, where he gained valuable insights into the natural gas sector and strengthened his expertise in driving business growth through operational excellence.

Nayar is widely recognised for his ability to combine business acumen with people-centric leadership. Throughout his career, he has successfully fostered strong channel partnerships, improved organisational performance, and delivered sustainable business outcomes. His collaborative leadership style and focus on empowering teams have played a crucial role in enhancing employee engagement and building high-performing work cultures across the organisation.

As Director (Human Resources), Nayar is expected to lead BPCL’s people strategy at a time when the company is undergoing significant transformation and preparing for future growth opportunities. Human capital has become a key differentiator for organisations navigating technological disruption, sustainability challenges, and changing workforce expectations. Nayar’s appointment reflects BPCL’s recognition of the critical role that talent development, leadership succession, and organisational culture will play in driving long-term success.

Before assuming his new role, Nayar served as Executive Director (HRD) at BPCL, where he was instrumental in shaping the company’s human resource development initiatives. His responsibilities included talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and strengthening the organisation’s culture. During his tenure, he focused on creating a performance-oriented environment while ensuring employees had access to opportunities for learning, growth, and career advancement.

One of the notable aspects of Nayar’s leadership has been his emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance HR effectiveness. He has actively promoted the use of HR analytics and artificial intelligence-driven solutions to support data-based decision-making and improve workforce planning. By integrating technology with human resource management, he has helped BPCL build stronger organisational capabilities while improving efficiency, employee experience, and overall business performance.

Nayar’s commitment to leadership development extends beyond the organisation. He is certified in globally recognised psychometric assessment frameworks, including Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Hogan Assessments, which are widely used for leadership evaluation and talent development. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Harvard Business India Leadership Advisory Board, reflecting his engagement with global best practices in leadership and organisational excellence.

His leadership credentials are further strengthened by his experience on the boards of several energy sector companies. Nayar has previously served as a board member of Central UP Gas Ltd and Sabarmati Gas Ltd and currently serves as Chairman of Arunachal Gas Private Ltd. These roles have provided him with valuable governance experience and strategic insights into the broader energy ecosystem.
