Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited has announced the launch of “Tonalli,” an advanced waste-to-energy solution developed to convert organic waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer. The new system was unveiled at the company’s headquarters and manufacturing facility in Hadapsar, Pune, further expanding its portfolio of sustainability-focused industrial technologies.

Tonalli has been designed as a compact, decentralized, and highly efficient organic waste management platform aimed at supporting India’s increasing focus on circular economy practices, sustainable infrastructure, and environmentally responsible waste processing systems. The solution converts food and organic waste into biogas and organic fertilizer using a controlled anaerobic digestion process that enables complete utilization of waste material while reducing dependence on landfill disposal.

The launch comes at a time when industries, institutions, residential communities, and commercial establishments are facing growing pressure to adopt sustainable waste management systems under India’s evolving environmental regulations. With the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, organizations are increasingly expected to manage and process organic waste at the source rather than relying on centralized disposal systems.

According to Kirloskar Pneumatic, Tonalli has been specifically developed to address these requirements by offering a localized waste processing solution capable of reducing transportation costs, minimizing environmental impact, and generating useful energy from daily waste generation. The system is targeted at applications including industrial canteens, hospitality establishments, residential complexes, institutional campuses, and commercial facilities where large quantities of organic waste are generated regularly.

A major feature of the Tonalli platform is its controlled anaerobic digestion technology, which processes organic waste under regulated environmental conditions to produce biogas efficiently and safely. Unlike conventional systems that rely heavily on mechanical agitation, Tonalli incorporates an inbuilt gas agitation mechanism that uses regulated biogas circulation for mixing purposes. This design helps improve operational reliability while reducing maintenance requirements and mechanical wear.

The biogas produced by the system undergoes a multi-stage purification process before utilization. This includes moisture removal and hydrogen sulfide scrubbing, resulting in cleaner and safer energy output suitable for practical industrial and commercial applications. Along with renewable energy generation, the process also produces organic fertilizer, supporting resource recovery and sustainable waste utilization.

The launch event was attended by industrial leaders, manufacturing professionals, and technology experts from the Hadapsar Industrial Estate ecosystem. Senior representatives from various engineering and manufacturing companies participated alongside Kirloskar Pneumatic’s management team and technology partners associated with the project.

Nuriel Pezarkar, a technology partner involved in the project, stated that Tonalli with BioBit Technology has been developed as a compact and plug-and-play solution capable of delivering measurable environmental benefits. According to Pezarkar, each installation contributes toward carbon reduction, lower dependence on conventional fuels, and improved resource efficiency through localized waste processing.

Kirloskar Pneumatic stated that the introduction of Tonalli aligns with the company’s broader commitment to developing engineering solutions focused on sustainability, operational efficiency, and resource optimization. The company believes decentralized waste-to-energy technologies will play an increasingly important role in helping industries and institutions meet future environmental compliance standards while creating economic value from organic waste streams.

The launch also reflects growing momentum within India’s clean energy and sustainability sectors, where industries are increasingly investing in renewable energy systems, waste recovery technologies, and environmentally responsible infrastructure. As organizations seek to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability performance, waste-to-energy systems such as Tonalli are expected to become more important components of industrial and urban infrastructure development.

Through the introduction of Tonalli, Kirloskar Pneumatic aims to support cleaner waste management practices while promoting decentralized renewable energy generation and circular resource utilization across multiple sectors.
