Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced operations at the second manufacturing plant at its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana, significantly expanding the company’s vehicle production capacity in India. The latest expansion adds an additional 250,000 vehicles per year to the company’s manufacturing network and marks another major milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s long-term growth strategy for the Indian automotive market.

With the launch of the second plant, the total annual production capacity at the Kharkhoda manufacturing site has now increased to 500,000 vehicles. The expansion also raises Maruti Suzuki’s combined production capability across all its manufacturing facilities in India to approximately 2.65 million vehicles annually, further strengthening its position as the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer.

The Kharkhoda project represents one of Maruti Suzuki’s most significant manufacturing investments in recent years. The foundation stone for the facility was laid in August 2022 by Narendra Modi, reflecting the strategic importance of the project for India’s automotive manufacturing sector and industrial development goals.

Maruti Suzuki has stated that the Kharkhoda site is being developed in phases and is planned to eventually achieve a total production capacity of one million vehicles annually. Once fully expanded, the facility could become one of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s four largest passenger vehicle manufacturing plants worldwide, highlighting the growing importance of India within Suzuki’s global manufacturing and export strategy.

Currently, the Kharkhoda facility is manufacturing popular utility vehicles including the Brezza compact SUV and the Victoris mid-size SUV. The addition of the second plant is expected to support rising domestic demand while also strengthening the company’s ability to cater to export markets.

The latest capacity addition also fulfills Maruti Suzuki’s earlier commitment to add 500,000 units of new manufacturing capacity during the FY 2026–27 period. The expansion aligns with the company’s broader strategy to increase production capabilities as India’s passenger vehicle market continues to grow steadily across multiple segments.

Maruti Suzuki currently operates four manufacturing facilities in India. Three of these plants are located in Haryana — Gurugram, Manesar, and Kharkhoda — while the fourth manufacturing facility is situated in Hansalpur, Gujarat. Together, these facilities form one of the largest automotive manufacturing networks in the country.

The launch of the second Kharkhoda plant reflects the company’s continued confidence in India’s automotive growth potential and its focus on scaling operations to meet increasing consumer demand. India has been emerging as a major global automotive manufacturing hub, supported by rising domestic consumption, improved supply chain infrastructure, government manufacturing initiatives, and increasing export opportunities.

The automotive industry has also been witnessing growing investments in advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, localization, and supply chain integration, all of which are helping manufacturers improve production efficiency and competitiveness. Large-scale expansion projects such as Kharkhoda are expected to further strengthen India’s role in global automobile manufacturing.

Maruti Suzuki’s phased expansion strategy is also expected to generate broader economic benefits through employment creation, supplier ecosystem growth, and industrial development in the region. As vehicle demand continues to evolve across passenger car, SUV, and export segments, the company’s increased manufacturing capabilities will play an important role in supporting future growth.

With the operationalization of the second Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki continues to reinforce its manufacturing leadership while contributing to India’s ambitions of becoming a global center for automotive production and exports.
